A general Virtual Assistant performs several functions such as creating blogs, administrative functions, email management, etc. Such a VA is ”jack of all trades”. Usually they are not experts in an area. On the contrary a specialized VA is more like an expert in their area or chosen field eg Rental Management, Project Management. A specialized VA has carved a niche and is specialized. However, both VAs whether general or specialized, work remotely and provide services to clients.
Three essential tools for virtual assistants include:
Google Drive/Dropbox: They are used for filing and cloud storage. It helps a client and their VA to share documents while also controlling the level of access. It aids the exchange of documents online without the need for back and forth emails.
Time Doctor is a timer and tracker tool. This records the amount of time a VA spends carrying out tasks. It automatically records work hours.
LastPass/IPass: Because a VA can serve many clients and so have access to their confidential details eg email passwords, it is important that passwords to client accounts are kept in a safe place to avoid compromise and for easy organization/access.
