  1. My name is Ngele Monica Chidinma. A medical laboratory science student and a Makeup Artist.

From the class so far, I’ve come to realize just how important certain skills are not just for getting the job done, but for doing it well and feeling confident along the way. Out of the six key areas, the ones that really stand out for me are communication, negotiation, time management (especially!), and continuing professional development.

    1. Communication

Good communication is something I really try to prioritize. Whether it’s updating a team member, explaining a task clearly, or keeping stakeholders informed, I’ve learned that how you say things is just as important as what you say. It keeps everyone aligned and helps avoid unnecessary confusion.

    2. Negotiation

Negotiation isn’t always easy for me, but I’ve come to see how valuable it is, especially when trying to find common ground or manage expectations. I’m learning to be more assertive, to speak up for what the project needs while still being fair and collaborative.

    3. Time Management (a big one for me)

If there’s one area I know I need to keep improving, it’s time management. Between juggling tasks, handling unexpected issues, and meeting deadlines, things can get overwhelming. Sometimes I underestimate how long something will take, or I get pulled in too many directions at once. I’m working on being more structured and realistic with my time.

    4. Continuing Professional Development

I’m passionate about learning, but I’ve realized that it’s easy to put personal development on the back burner when things get busy. That said, I know how important it is to keep growing, whether it’s learning new tools, gaining certifications, or simply staying in touch with current trends. It’s something I want to make a regular habit, not just an occasional effort.

Where I See Room to Grow:

Even though I’ve built some experience in these areas, I still see clear opportunities to grow:

Managing time more effectively and staying ahead of tasks without burning out.

Becoming more confident in negotiation, especially in situations where I need to advocate for project needs.

Committing more consistently to professional development, even during busy periods.

    My Next Steps:

To close these gaps, I plan to:

    * Take a time management course or use a planner system that helps me break tasks into manageable steps.

    * Practice negotiation in real-life situations, even small ones to build confidence and learn what works.

    * Create a learning schedule for myself, where I set aside time each month for courses, webinars, or reading.

    * Reach out to a mentor or peer in project management for guidance and accountability.

I know that developing these skills won’t happen overnight, but I’m committed to improving. With small, consistent steps, I believe I’ll become a stronger and more well-rounded project manager, one who can lead with clarity, confidence, and purpose.
