Various definitions of the concept of quality have been put forward.
One generic definition (Pass, 2006b) is as follows:
The overall characteristics of a product or service that fulfill the requirements of customers in terms of quality.
This definition aligns with the viewpoint of Joseph Juran, who, in the 1950s, defined quality as ‘fitness for use’ (as quoted in ASQ, 2019).
This definition is largely consistent with the definition of quality provided by APM (2019, p. 214):
The suitability for the intended purpose and the degree to which the output of a process or the process itself conforms to the requirements.
Now take a moment to consider the following statements about quality. Which ones do you agree with?
- Quality should prioritize the customer’s needs.
- Quality is an internal focus.
- Quality should be considered from the project’s inception.
- The execution phase of a project is crucial for achieving quality goals.
- Quality issues should be openly discussed to identify corrective actions.
- Quality problems should be concealed from customers and possibly managers.
- Individuals are enthusiastic about producing high-quality outcomes.
- Team members do not produce quality outputs without close supervision.

For me, i think “Quality should be considered from the beginning of the project”. Irrespective of who the product design is meant for. Be it for kids, households or companies. Ignoring the impotence of quality and working till a stage of the execution demands some measure of quality is a waste of the other 2 components of the iron triangle, which is cost and time. The team might have to go back to the beginning of the project to walk through every stage, looking for what might have gone wrong. Meanwhile, had the team been quality conscious, yes, the project might consume extra time, but definitely not require redo of the entire project because of quality neglect.
Also, i think quality itself is a way of branding. In our various homes, why do we choose a particular brand name for appliance? Well, i think decision lies heavily with quality. There are brands people will chuckle at their name’s mentioned and it is because of same quality issue.
Indulge me now, what brands do you fall on to come through for you when buying appliance? For my mum, it has always been “Philips” since when i could read.
I totally agree with the following assertions:
Quality should be considered from the project’s inception. If the quality is bad, it will affect the overall project output. Thus it should be considered before starting the project.
Also, I agree that quality should be focused on the consumer’s need.
Quality should be focused on the customer’s needs.
Reason because it is only the customer has the final decision to comment on the job.
When a customer has a specification on what he/she want you to deliver, tha is he/she quality.so therefore customer needs determines whether the project you carried out has quality.
From the listed points…. I’m of the opinion that 1,3 and 8 is consequential element of a Successful Product that meets quality demands.
First, before embarking on a project, it’s a prerequisite to figure out the need of the customer or beneficiary in order to get satisfactory result(Needs must be met else the outcome of the project will lack the fitness to be used)
Having the customers needs in mind should serve as roadmap for a smooth drive toward the objective of the project. And Lastly, As A Good Project Manager despite the possible expatriate knowledge and specialization depending on the complexity of the project require supervision. Supervision in this context is putting in measures to checkmate performance and expectation to avoid unexpected event and will alter the plan.

talking about QUALITY, in my opinion quality should be the watch word for every PM regardless of the project at hand. the goal is to deliver a product fit for use, and suitable for the intended purpose.Hence quality should be considered considered from inception of project, this will definitely enhance the degree to which the output of a process or the process itself conforms to the requirement.
Quality should be considered from the beginning of the project
As a project manager, quality should be our utmost priority. Even when some customers might not be able to relate. Our product and services meeting up perfect quality is the best part of a project management. We should also discuss quality issues to identify corrective actions.
Personally, for proper satisfaction quality must be prioritized.
Without a quality output in project the ending wouldn’t be meaningful.
When project standards are raised the desired goal of the client or stakeholder would definitely be met.
Ensuring that the project is successful and the outcome is achieved
Project quality management is a process that considers how a project should proceed to achieve the desired quality for the project’s deliverables. It requires project managers to continually measure the quality of the activities and processes involved in the project. In project quality management, standards are set ahead of time to measure deliverables against, and action needs to be taken throughout the project to course-correct.
Project quality management’s ultimate goal is to guarantee deliverables that satisfy the needs and expectations of clients, stakeholders, or customers, depending on its end-user.
Most project managers will approach a project wanting to reach the best possible outcome, yet many factors could prevent this from happening. Even with the best team and best tools, a project’s output could fall short of its mark without project quality management measures in place.
Elements of Project Quality Management includes;
1.Quality Planning
2.Quality Assurance
3.Quality Control
The Project Management Triangle :
While everyone involved in a project ultimately wants the deliverables to be as good as possible, it can be easy to forget about quality when you’re stuck in the weeds. The project management triangle, or the triple constraint triangle, can help project managers achieve quality.
The triangle helps make sure that costs, timelines, and intended scope are balanced; while this alone isn’t enough to guarantee a project’s output is high-quality, it can go a long way to making sure costs aren’t too low compared to the scope or that timelines aren’t too short to allow your team enough time to do their best work.
Fulfilling customer needs is essential for business success. High-quality products and services that meet or exceed customer expectations lead to customer satisfaction and loyalty.
It is also important to understanding the needs of customers, focusing on customer needs allows businesses to identify and address customer pain points. This can involve gathering customer feedback, conducting market research, and understanding customer buying behavior.
