Various definitions of the concept of quality have been put forward.
One generic definition (Pass, 2006b) is as follows:
The overall characteristics of a product or service that fulfill the requirements of customers in terms of quality.
This definition aligns with the viewpoint of Joseph Juran, who, in the 1950s, defined quality as ‘fitness for use’ (as quoted in ASQ, 2019).
This definition is largely consistent with the definition of quality provided by APM (2019, p. 214):
The suitability for the intended purpose and the degree to which the output of a process or the process itself conforms to the requirements.
Now take a moment to consider the following statements about quality. Which ones do you agree with?
- Quality should prioritize the customer’s needs.
- Quality is an internal focus.
- Quality should be considered from the project’s inception.
- The execution phase of a project is crucial for achieving quality goals.
- Quality issues should be openly discussed to identify corrective actions.
- Quality problems should be concealed from customers and possibly managers.
- Individuals are enthusiastic about producing high-quality outcomes.
- Team members do not produce quality outputs without close supervision.
Share your thoughts on these statements in the discussion section below.

quality should be focused on the customer’s need
quality is focused internally
quality should be considered from the beginning of the project
quality should be discussed openly to find corrective actions
All this work together, none is separate from the other.
These are my thoughts on quality.
Quality is inclusive of the customer’s need; it should be considered from the project’s inception otherwise it’s easy to miss the mark at delivery. It must be openly discussed; team members would not provide quality without supervision. Setting clear standards and communicating to team members expectations on quality should be from inception of the team. Quality issues should never be kept away from stakeholders.
Quality should be considered from the inception of the project but it must also run through all the deliverables of the project. A project can be delivered on time and within budget but if it does not match the quality, it has failed.
Quality should be focused on the customer’s needs.
Quality is focused internally.
Quality should be considered from the beginning of the project.
The execution phase of a project is the most critical to achieve quality targets.
Quality issues should be discussed openly to find corrective actions.
Team members do not produce quality outputs without close supervision.
I Strongly agree with the above
For me, I agree with below statements:
• Quality should be focused on the customer’s needs.
• Quality should be considered from the beginning of the project
• The execution phase of a project is the most critical to achieve quality targets.
• People are keen on producing quality outputs.
Basically, I disagree with quality problems being concealed from the stakeholders and customers; as they play a major role in defining the quality of a good or service, more like how project success is rated by stakeholders, so without knowing their own definition of project success, you’ll definitely be at a loss.
I agree with the following statements:
1. Quality should be focused on the customer’s needs.
2. Quality should be considered from the beginning of the project.
3. Quality problems should be hidden from customers and possibly also managers.
And I strongly disagree with;
“The execution phase of a project is the most critical to achieve quality targets.” Because, Quality isn’t just about getting things right during the main part of a project. It’s important to think about quality from the very start to the end.

As for me I agree with these;
Quality issues should be discussed openly to find corrective actions
Quality should be considered from the project’s inception.
I agree with tis statements:

I will pick this “Quality should be considered from the beginning of the project”
Most clients don’t even know what they want. It is the responsibility of the PM to rehearse with his team to give a clearer picture of what the client demands and a PM who understands his/her job and ability to communicate effectively, will gain the heart of the client reason been that, he desires the best of the project and a more deeper beauty of the client’s needs will be revealed.
