Various definitions of the concept of quality have been put forward.
One generic definition (Pass, 2006b) is as follows:
The overall characteristics of a product or service that fulfill the requirements of customers in terms of quality.
This definition aligns with the viewpoint of Joseph Juran, who, in the 1950s, defined quality as ‘fitness for use’ (as quoted in ASQ, 2019).
This definition is largely consistent with the definition of quality provided by APM (2019, p. 214):
The suitability for the intended purpose and the degree to which the output of a process or the process itself conforms to the requirements.
Now take a moment to consider the following statements about quality. Which ones do you agree with?
- Quality should prioritize the customer’s needs.
- Quality is an internal focus.
- Quality should be considered from the project’s inception.
- The execution phase of a project is crucial for achieving quality goals.
- Quality issues should be openly discussed to identify corrective actions.
- Quality problems should be concealed from customers and possibly managers.
- Individuals are enthusiastic about producing high-quality outcomes.
- Team members do not produce quality outputs without close supervision.

According to the generic definition of quality, “quality is the totality of the attributes of a good or service which meet the requirements of buyer’s and customer’s quality. However, for the fact that it’s met the requirements of buyer’s and customer’s it’s not enough reason to discuss openly on how to get quality with your customers. On this note I will agree to the fact that;
1. Quality is an internal focus: in a business world, quality of whatever products or goods you are producing must be of good quality to get a great feedback on your product but it is not a enough reason to openly discuss the quality of your products to your customers from the beginning, it’s an internal thing. It’s the team that would decide how the goods will fit it and how it will serve the good of every consumer. No one wants to waste resources and energy in producing what doesn’t have quality, so first of all team would have to decide the quality of whatever they are coming out with before they put their resources and energy.
2. Quality should be considered from the beginning of the project; most time we think quantity makes a product better but quality actually does. If quality is not considered from the beginning of the project, the project is more or less not useful. Project must be able to serve the purpose of why it’s been done and the quality must be met.
i agree with this
Quality should be considered from the project’s inception.
The execution phase of a project is crucial for achieving quality goals
Quality issues should be openly discussed to identify corrective actions.
Quality should be considered from the beginning of the project
The statements on quality that I agree with include:
`1. Quality should be considered from the inception of the project
2. Quality issues should be openly discussed to identify corrective actions.
3. Quality is an internal focus
Quality should be considered from the inception of the project but it must also run through all the deliverables of the project. A project can be delivered on time and within budget but if it does not match the quality, it has failed

I agree with this statements:
1. Quality should be focused on the customer’s needs.
2. Quality should be considered from the beginning of the project.
3. The execution phase of a project is the most critical to achieving quality targets.
4. Quality issues should be discussed openly to find corrective actions.
5. People are keen on producing quality output.
I agreed with the point listed, except, point 6 & 8. Quality of products should be the priority the team/organisation. I don’t believe in concealing the problem but be taken care of ASAP. Whatever we have concealed will somehow be exposed either now or later.
Point 8,
When quality product becomes the goal of each team members, with time our deliverables needs no supervision.
Quality should always be focused on the customer’s needs, as they are the ultimate beneficiaries of the product or service. It should also be considered from the beginning of the project to ensure that requirements are understood and met throughout the process. The execution phase is indeed critical for achieving quality targets, but it’s equally important to address quality issues openly and find corrective actions promptly. Hiding quality problems, whether from customers or managers, is not conducive to long-term success. People generally strive to produce quality outputs, but effective supervision and support can further enhance their ability to deliver consistently high-quality work.
