What is quality [PM Course discussion]

Various definitions of the concept of quality have been put forward.

One generic definition (Pass, 2006b) is as follows:

The overall characteristics of a product or service that fulfill the requirements of customers in terms of quality.

This definition aligns with the viewpoint of Joseph Juran, who, in the 1950s, defined quality as ‘fitness for use’ (as quoted in ASQ, 2019).

This definition is largely consistent with the definition of quality provided by APM (2019, p. 214):

The suitability for the intended purpose and the degree to which the output of a process or the process itself conforms to the requirements.

Now take a moment to consider the following statements about quality. Which ones do you agree with?

  3. Quality should be considered from the project’s inception.
  4. The execution phase of a project is crucial for achieving quality goals.
  5. Quality issues should be openly discussed to identify corrective actions.
  6. Quality problems should be concealed from customers and possibly managers.
  7. Individuals are enthusiastic about producing high-quality outcomes.
  8. Team members do not produce quality outputs without close supervision.

Quality for me should be part of the foundation blocks while building or carrying out a project because i feel i goes a long way to for you and your team as the people who worked on that project.
It also goes o show on your teams final output and if in futre another project manager come up to handle that project, they will be sure not to give low quality because you and your team has set the pace.

  2. Modupe Esther Team 9: i agree with the following
1.Quality should prioritize the customer’s needs :customers needs is very important when thinking of the quality of the project because at the end of the day , they are the major stakeholders of the project.

    2. Quality should be considered from the project’s inception because when quality is taken into consideration from the beginning of the project, it helps to plan and manage cost. for example where little funds will be utilized is also noted ahead and where huge capital is needed is also noted to avoid disruptions

    3. The execution phase of a project is crucial for achieving quality goals.

4.Quality issues should be openly discussed to identify corrective actions: quality should be discussed openly to enable the team put in their expertise and call for more skills when needed.

    5. are enthusiastic about producing high-quality outcomes: everyone on the project team should excited about the high quality as this will make them perform optimally

  3. I agree with these points;

Quality should focus on customer”s needs
The execution phase of project is the most critical in achieving quality targets
Quality issues should be addressed openly in order to find corrective actions.
Quality should be considered from the beginning of the project.

  4. I agree with the following statements:

    – Quality should be focused on the customer’s needs. (Customer-centric approach)
    – Quality should be considered from the beginning of the project. (Proactive approach)
    – Quality issues should be discussed openly to find corrective actions. (Transparent and collaborative approach)

I disagree with the following statements:

    – Quality is focused internally. (Quality should be customer-focused, not just internally focused)
    – The execution phase of a project is the most critical to achieve quality targets. (Quality should be considered throughout the entire project lifecycle)
    – Quality problems should be hidden from customers and possibly also managers. (Transparency and openness are essential for building trust and resolving issues)
    – Team members do not produce quality outputs without close supervision. (Team members should be empowered and trusted to produce quality outputs)

Quality is about meeting customer needs and exceeding their expectations. It requires a proactive, customer-centric approach, and open communication throughout the entire project lifecycle. By focusing on quality from the beginning and addressing issues openly, we can deliver high-quality outputs that meet customer requirements.

  5. Quality should be considered from the project’s inception because:
    1. It helps in preventing issues before they arise.
    2. It ensures all members of the team have a clear understanding of what is expected.
    3. It integrates into project’s foundation, best standards and practices.
    4. It identifies issues and potential risks early in the project.
    5. It considers regulatory requirements and quality standards from project’s inception.

  6. I agree that:

    1) Quality should be focused on the customer’s needs.
    2) Quality should be considered from the beginning of the project.
    3) Quality issues should be discussed openly to find corrective actions.
    4) People but not all, are keen on producing quality outputs.
    5) Depending on the agreed vision, team members do produce quality outputs with or without close supervision. Vice versa.

  7. I agree with these aspects:
    Quality should prioritize customers needs
Quality should be considered from the project inceptions
Quality issues should be openly discussed to identify corrective actions
    Quality is an internal focus
The execution phase is important in achieving quality goals

  8. I agree that “Quality should be considered from the beginning of the project”. The team and everyone involved in the project (or product), should have a clear understanding of where they’re going right from unset. This gives them a mental picture of the deliverable.

Moreso, “the execution phase of a project is the most critical to achieve quality targets”. Even after having a clear mental picture, there arise the need to ensure conformity to standard or requirement. This is achieved during the execution stage

  9. While its so important to meet customers taste or satisfaction. quality is often about standard and cannot or should not be determined by some customers imperfection taste.
    I believe that ;
    1.Quality should be focused internally.
2.Quality should be considered from the beginning of the project.
3.The execution phase of a project is the most critical to achieve quality targets.
4.Quality issues should be discussed openly to find corrective actions.

  10. Quality can be said to be when the customer taste or choice is being met.
Also quality shows the high taste of a seller out of the best.
Quality should be the main focus of every team , client , seller and it’s should be prioritised to produce a good output.
