Various definitions of the concept of quality have been put forward.
One generic definition (Pass, 2006b) is as follows:
The overall characteristics of a product or service that fulfill the requirements of customers in terms of quality.
This definition aligns with the viewpoint of Joseph Juran, who, in the 1950s, defined quality as ‘fitness for use’ (as quoted in ASQ, 2019).
This definition is largely consistent with the definition of quality provided by APM (2019, p. 214):
The suitability for the intended purpose and the degree to which the output of a process or the process itself conforms to the requirements.
Now take a moment to consider the following statements about quality. Which ones do you agree with?
- Quality should prioritize the customer’s needs.
- Quality is an internal focus.
- Quality should be considered from the project’s inception.
- The execution phase of a project is crucial for achieving quality goals.
- Quality issues should be openly discussed to identify corrective actions.
- Quality problems should be concealed from customers and possibly managers.
- Individuals are enthusiastic about producing high-quality outcomes.
- Team members do not produce quality outputs without close supervision.
Share your thoughts on these statements in the discussion section below.

The goal of many projects is to meet customers needs while benefitting the organization.
The quality of deliverables is fundamental to project objectives.
So,quality should be considered from the beginning of the project which interrelates with cost it is at this point a decision is made of whether to go for quality ABC or quality Xyz,this should be discussed openly with the stakeholders and the teams, and it is from here an agreement will be made on which quality benefits both the customers and the company.
PLANNING FOR QUALITY
For proper execution of a project that meets client’s quality requirement, I would ensure constant communication is maintained with the shareholders as a way of assuring them that their expectations would be met. This medium would also provide the avenue needed to adapt any change in users requirements.
To establish my commitment to right delivery of quality outputs, besides providing the above assurance, periodic checks and inspections would be conducted to make sure that users expectations are met.
Aspects to be considered in an audit includes: to ensure that meeting the actual requirements of the clients is given high priority, to check and ensure proper control systems are in place and also to ensure corrective measures are fully functional.

I agree with these statements:
1. Quality should prioritize the customer’s needs
2. Quality should be considered from Project inception
3. The execution of a project is crucial for achieving project goals
4. Quality issues should be openly discussed to identify corrective actions
5. Team members do not produce quality outputs without close supervision
I am n agreement with the statement that state that: Quality should prioritize the customer’s needs and Quality should be considered from the project’s inception. The goal of a project manager is to understand the needs of the beneficiaries and what the projects requirements are and then ensure that the project is able to meet them. This usually begins from the inception of the project up on till those needs have been met and delivered.
Some of the statements on quality stated that i agree with are as follows
– Quality should be considered from the beginning of the Project. From the planning phase,
quality should be part of the decisions made
– Quality should be focused on what the customer want
– Quality issues should be discussed openly to find corrective actions
Quality is the most important value of any project. So it should be taken seriously right from the planning stage through the execution up to the finish point. Quality is what gifts customers satisfaction and also keeps them. I believe that everyone (stakeholders and customers) should be carried along when it comes to quality.
I think quality should be considered from the begining of a project in order to minimize the quality costs of a project, also the execution phase of a project is the ideal phase to achieve quality in any project also issues arising from quality should be discussed publicly in order to get corrective actions on such issues. In general, quality is an important aspect of any project as it sums up conformation to the required outputs of a project.
The statements I strongly agree with are:
1. Quality should be focused on the customers needs.
2. Quality should be considered from the beginning of the project.
3. Quality issues should be discussed openly to find corrective actions.
4. Team members do not produce quality outputs without close supervision.
What is Quality?
1. Quality should prioritize the customer’s needs. I AGREE. Meeting the customer’s need implies conformity to project objective which is directly proportional to achieve quality
2. Quality is an internal focus. With reference to the Team, it is a valid point. But if beyond Team perspective, it is not true because the stakeholders and the organization in particular have expectation in the form of project output that must meet set objective
3. Quality should be considered from the project’s inception. I AGREE. Anything worth doing at all, worth doing well.
4. The execution phase of a project is crucial for achieving quality goals. I AGREE
5. Quality issues should be openly discussed to identify corrective actions. I AGREE. In essence, this is why feedback becomes important. It helps to refine and fine tune project processes to produce right deliverables.
6. Quality problems should be concealed from customers and possibly managers. I DISAGREE
7. Individuals are enthusiastic about producing high-quality outcomes. I AGREE on the basis that all members of thevteam share common ideas, values, goals and objectives.
8. Team members do not produce quality outputs without close supervision. I AGREE because the Project manager is responsible for communicating the final outcome of the project to the organization and it is either this outcome is a success(that it meets the objective) or a failure. One way to validate the conformity of each member’s role to meeting set objectives is when each individual member’s role passes the acceptability mark of the project manager. Not until this happens,;it may be assumed that the output by each member has not attained the quality benchmark set yet.
