Put yourself in the role of a project manager collaborating with MTD, an events company.
Considering the difficulties and problems that MTD encounters in their projects, what insights have you gained this week that could offer assistance?
If an iterative approach were employed in organizing an event as a project, what would be the consequences? Similarly, what are the implications of adopting an agile approach? If the company sought your advice, what would you recommend?
Contribute your thoughts and ideas to the discussion.

Both approaches are unique in their own ways but as a project manager you need to build your toolkit with proven methods and techniques, also knowing how to use them to achieve desired results in the projects.
Consequences of applying the iterative approach would be making a whole lot of adjustments which would lead to more time required on the project.
Adopting the agile project would lead to a quick response to any change, limiting the amount of work to be done, prioritising and getting the work done on time.
An agile approach enhances adaptability, collaboration, and efficiency in project management. It allows teams to respond quickly to changes, delivering value incrementally while minimizing risks associated with traditional methods. Agile fosters a culture of continuous improvement through regular feedback and self-organizing teams, which can lead to higher employee satisfaction and better product quality
Iterative approach is more adaptable structured and better suited for projects with less frequent changes.
It allows for changes to be made quickly and streamline the development strategies. It also identifies issues at the beginning of the project and saves cost.
It allows for continuous improvement at every stage.
The Agile approach is designed to adapt quickly to changes suitable for projects that require frequent updates. Multiple feedback allows problems to be identified early in the project process and solutions are provided and implemented. It achieves great results, minimizes cost and time.
I believe both approach are unique in their way but as a project manager it is adviceable to employ the approach that works for you or that is best suitable for the project.
My advice for MTD is to adopt the agile approach under the iterative methods because tasks are being carried out within a specific period of time ,Feedback gotten from user can bring about change when necessary this help to make the work on check and easily carried out.
Insights Gained
MTD’s challenges often stem from rigid planning, miscommunication, and lack of regular feedback, leading to scope creep and misaligned expectations.
Iterative Approach
Breaking the event process into phases with feedback loops (e.g., concept, planning, testing, execution) ensures adaptability and alignment.
Pros:
Regular adjustments improve client satisfaction.
Early issue identification reduces risks.
Cons:
Requires more time and stakeholder involvement.
Agile Approach
An agile approach emphasizes flexibility, continuous collaboration, and iterative improvements.
Pros:
Faster adjustments to changes.
Stronger client engagement.
Cons:
Demands a culture shift and skilled team.
Recommendation
Adopt an agile-iterative hybrid: maintain structure while incorporating flexibility and frequent feedback to handle event dynamics effectively.
Employ what works in your environment as to effective and efficient as a project Manager. Studying processes involved in any project is key.
Provide training and coaching to team members to develop the necessary skills and competencies to work effectively in an iterative and agile environment.
The challenge the iterative approach can face is that it Can be time-consuming, complex to coordinate, and resource-intensive.
The challenge Agile Approach can face is the Risk of scope creep, less predictability in timelines and budgets, and requires strong communication within the team.
My advice will be;
Adopt a Hybrid Approach: Combine both methods—use iterative cycles for early planning (e.g., venue selection) and agile sprints for execution (e.g., managing tasks, client feedback).
Prioritize Early Planning: Focus on structure early on, then switch to agile for more flexible, rapid execution.
Ensure Stakeholder Involvement: Continuous feedback from clients helps shape the event and avoid last-minute changes.
Train the Team: Educate the team on agile/iterative methods to ensure smooth collaboration.
Set Boundaries for Flexibility: Recognize that some aspects of event planning (e.g., contracts) have fixed elements, and limit flexibility in those areas.
A hybrid approach that mixes both iterative and agile methods will allow MTD to stay flexible while ensuring the event’s structure and deadlines are met
As a PM, we have been advised not to focus on one approach only, so I’ll suggest that MTD make use of both approaches to leverage the situation even though the Agile method under the iterative approach is good and better for the situation but they should blend both approaches
I suggest MTD leverage the strengths of both linear and agile project management. Linear methodologies offer a structured approach, ensuring each phase is completed before moving to the next. This allows for thorough planning and quality control. However, agile methodologies, with their flexible and iterative nature, are better suited for projects with evolving requirements. By incorporating elements of both, MTD can enhance project outcomes, minimize risks, and maximize efficiency.
