Put yourself in the role of a project manager collaborating with MTD, an events company.
Considering the difficulties and problems that MTD encounters in their projects, what insights have you gained this week that could offer assistance?
If an iterative approach were employed in organizing an event as a project, what would be the consequences? Similarly, what are the implications of adopting an agile approach? If the company sought your advice, what would you recommend?

As a project manager in MTD,
With what I’ve learnt this week I will advise they combine the two approaches.
First employ the linear project approach where the scope of the project is unlikely to change and the timing and cost is estimated.
If stakeholders are at your neck to deliver fast you can switch to iterative project approach.
You can work on a two week sprint to meet up your target.
Agile projects are flexible, biz strategy can change to get a desired result.
MTD can combine these two approaches to excel in a VUCA world.
Thank you.
As a project manager working with MTD.
My approach to MTD challenges in view to what I learnt this week,
I would advise:
We apply linear method,
From the conception- which is why we are building the project.
To the transition- the final product and benefits to the society. The stakeholders
While also apply iterative method
From working with our beneficiaries
Getting feedback and improvements on how we can provide a better service to our customers.
By trying to expanding our creativity.
Teamwork on providing a better service.
As a project manager working with MTD, the events company, I’ve learned several valuable lessons this week that could help address the challenges and issues they face in their projects.
One key takeaway is the importance of adopting an iterative approach to project management. By breaking down the project into smaller, manageable chunks, and delivering incremental value in each iteration, MTD can better respond to changing requirements, reduce uncertainty, and improve overall project outcomes.
An agile approach would also be beneficial for MTD. By embracing agile principles, such as flexibility, collaboration, and continuous improvement, the company can:
– Improve communication and stakeholder engagement
– Enhance teamwork and collaboration among staff and vendors
– Increase adaptability and responsiveness to changing project requirements
– Deliver higher-quality events that meet or exceed customer expectations
If I were asked to advise MTD, my advice would be to:
1. Introduce agile methodologies and iterative approaches to project management
2. Provide training and coaching for staff on agile principles and practices
3. Establish clear communication channels and stakeholder engagement strategies
4. Foster a culture of collaboration, experimentation, and continuous improvement
By adopting these strategies, MTD can improve project outcomes, enhance customer satisfaction, and establish itself as a leader in the events industry.
* What I have learned this week is using the VUCA Dimensions can be very helpful to guide and inform on actions taking during a project and the upcoming results of those actions or decisions.
*Setting up an Event will need some constructions, engineering works, lighting and water supply, security and safety. So using only an iterative approach alone may not give the expected results to make a successful event project. Some of these activities in setting up an event work on a project scope that is unlikely to change. Taking up only iterative approach may unstable an already stable environment.
* An agile approach in an event project may disrupt some physical handyman work process. It will work smoothly when initiated into the Light and water supply challenges plan and also ticket sales of the event and human capacity coming for the event.
* Advice to MTD, use the Linear approach and also consider to have space to implement iterative approach when the condition arise for it. Be flexible to adopt to both approach, the goal is to make the project a success and clients are satisfied.
MTD can address its project challenges by adopting a hybrid approach that combines Agile flexibility with structured planning. An iterative method allows for continuous improvement through feedback, while Agile ensures adaptability, customer focus, and collaboration, albeit requiring cultural shifts and disciplined frameworks. To improve outcomes, MTD should enhance stakeholder engagement, implement risk management processes, and utilize project management tools for transparency and efficiency. Training teams in Agile methodologies can foster responsiveness and collaboration, enabling MTD to manage complexities and deliver projects more effectively.

If I were the project manager I would carefully study the implications of adopting either iterative approach or agile approach or both.
Implications of iterative approach
Benefits: Flexibility in planing, enhance stakeholders engagement, reduces rish and improves accuracy.
Challenges: Difficulty in setting clear deadlines, prolonged planing phase, high resources required, etc.
Implications of agile approach
Benefits:
* implications of agile approach
Benefits: Improves team morale, improve collaboration, faster time to market, etc
Challenges: Difficulty in estimating efforts, requires cultural shifts, etc.
After carefully studying the implications, as a project manager I will adopt both approaches. I would adopt iterative approach first then agile approach for the execution phase.
If I were the project manager working with MTD, an events company, I’d carefully consider the implications of taking an iterative or agile approach to event planning.
Iterative Approach:
An iterative approach involves breaking down the event into smaller phases, each improving based on feedback from the previous one. It gives flexibility to adjust as things progress, but it also comes with challenges.
Pros: It allows flexibility to refine plans as feedback comes in, and it can make the event feel more tailored.
Cons: It can lead to scope creep if not carefully controlled, and it might waste resources if plans change too frequently. Stakeholders need to be involved throughout, which can be time-consuming, and the quality may vary if the iterations aren’t managed well.
Agile Approach:
Agile is all about flexibility and responding quickly to change, often in short sprints. For event planning, this means quickly adapting to changes based on client needs or unexpected issues. Pros: It allows quick responses to changes, keeps the team working closely together, and ensures client feedback is regularly incorporated. Cons: It can make planning difficult because outcomes are harder to predict. There’s also the risk of losing sight of the bigger picture if changes happen too often without clear documentation.

Implications of Iterative approach
Benefits : risk management, flexibility, build client trust.
Challenges : Disciplined time management and clear milestones, and tracking multiple iterations to avoid delays.
Implications of Agile Approach
Benefits : Team adaptability and collaboration.
Challenges: Requires regular client engagement and team familiarity with agile principles.
If I were the project manager working with MTD, events company, I would adopt both agile and iterative approach.
I’ll start with iterative for the pre event (logistics, venue set up, vendor selection) in order to mitigate risk early enough.
Then I’d incorporate Agile during the execution phase and I will also ensure to train my team on agile methodology.
For the challenges faced by MTD, I think they should adopt agile methodology of critical analysis and the readiness to act fast when faced with challenges in project.
The implication of taking an iterative approach to setting up an event is that it helps detect risk as early as possible and action can be taken to address the risk.
The implications of an agile approach is the ability to get feedback needed to validate business ideas and inform investment decisions and planning.
I have learned about the different project management approaches as well as their lifecycles, challenges and their benefits.
An iterative approach implications which involves repeating cycles of planning, execution and review would mean that they would be having different adjustments based on information.
However, for agile, the team will need to be more flexible so as to adapt and respond to changes as they occur. I would strongly recommend an agile approach.
As a PM I’ll advice MTD to make use of both the iterative and agile method on their project due to the unstable environment and nature of the project. So as to leverage the situation at hand
