Apply what you’ve learned (PM Course Discussion)

Put yourself in the role of a project manager collaborating with MTD, an events company.

Considering the difficulties and problems that MTD encounters in their projects, what insights have you gained this week that could offer assistance?

If an iterative approach were employed in organizing an event as a project, what would be the consequences? Similarly, what are the implications of adopting an agile approach? If the company sought your advice, what would you recommend?

  1. As an aspiring project manager I’ll recommend the combination of both the iterative and agile method in carrying out the MTD project. As this will foster a more better and credible results.

  2. I’d recommend the use of a combination of both the agile and iterative method for improved flexibility in carrying out the MTD project. This would drive more satisfactory results.

  3. As a project manager I will recommend a combination of both iterative and agile approach in MTD project. Having gained understanding of both approaches, in the below I will buttress my decision;

The flexibility in responding to changes in the project, continuous improvement and early detection of issues that may occur in the project as it relates to providing quality drinking water. This is done through breaking down of the project into smaller chunks, and repeatedly iterating through cycle of planning, execution and review.

While the agile approach consolidates the iterative project approach through collaboration and team work, customer satisfaction, rapid delivery and continuous improvement to meet the demand or needs of the stakeholders of the project

  4. , I gained insights into the value of adaptability and continuous feedback in project management, particularly in how these principles can address challenges faced by MTD. One key insight is that iterative approaches can help identify and mitigate issues early by allowing for incremental adjustments. This can significantly reduce risks and improve project outcomes.Agile is a project management methodology that emphasizes flexibility, collaboration, and rapid delivery. It enhances frequent feedback and fast delivery’s, ensuring customer satisfaction

  5. As a project manager collaborating with MTD, using the iterative approach would be th. We can make use of 2-week sprints to plan, act, review and get feedback. This will help us decide whether the solutions being proffered are viable and/or if it needs to be discarded or tweaked.
Using the iterative approach also helps us to prioritize and focus on the more urgent tasks.
Stakeholders would feel like they are part of the process and decisions are made quicker which helps the project’s timeline.

  6. This week I got the understanding into the ability to adapt and get continuous feedback In project management especially on how these principles can help to address the challenges that are faced the MTD organization. 8. This week, I gained insights into the value of adaptability and continuous feedback in project management, particularly in how these principles can address challenges faced by MTD. One key insight is that iterative approaches can help identify and mitigate issues early by allowing for incremental adjustments. This can significantly reduce risks and improve project outcomes.

If an iterative approach were used to organize an event as a project, it would mean breaking down the event planning into smaller phases or sprints. Each phase would allow for feedback, testing, and improvement, which could lead to better resource allocation, more effective problem-solving, and a more refined final product. However, it could also mean increased workload for the team as they continuously adjust and revisit their work, potentially extending the timeline if not properly managed.

Adopting an agile approach would bring flexibility and a collaborative mindset to the project. It promotes frequent communication and adaptation, ensuring that the event aligns with stakeholders’ needs and expectations throughout the process. The implications of this approach include the potential for higher engagement from team members and stakeholders, as everyone is part of the decision-making process. However, it may also require a cultural shift within the organization and additional training to foster an agile mindset.

If MTD sought my advice, I would recommend integrating agile principles that emphasize adaptability, clear communication, and iterative improvements. By using agile methods, MTD can create a project management environment that not only responds to challenges effectively but also empowers the team to collaborate and innovate throughout the process. To make this successful, I would suggest starting with a pilot project to test agile practices and gradually scale them as the team becomes more familiar with the methodology.

  9. As a project manager I will recommend the use of iterative and agile approach in MTD project reason is so because:
Iterative Approach involves breaking down a project into smaller, manageable chunks, and repeatedly cycling through a series of phases to deliver incremental value. While,
Agile is a project management methodology that emphasizes flexibility, collaboration, and rapid delivery. It enhances frequent feedback and fast delivery’s, ensuring customer satisfaction and stakeholder management .
    Recommendation:
1)Implement Agile Iterations: Use Agile iterations (sprints) to deliver working software in short cycles, while incorporating Iterative Approach principles to refine and improve deliverables.
2)Foster Collaboration and Feedback: Encourage collaboration, open communication, and regular feedback loops to ensure that all stakeholders are aligned and informed throughout the project.
3)Prioritize Customer Needs and Deliver Incremental Value: Focus on delivering incremental value that meets customer needs and expectations, while continuously gathering feedback to refine and improve deliverables.
4)Monitor Progress and Adjust: Regularly monitor project progress, identify areas for improvement, and adjust the project plan accordingly to ensure successful project delivery.

By combining Agile and Iterative Approaches, MTD company can leverage the benefits of both methodologies to deliver successful projects that meet customer needs and expectations.

  10. If MTD adopts an Iterative Approach in executing their Projects, the consequences will be highly positive because the approach will help her in early spotting or detection of issues in projects, anticipating and management of risk, improving on functionality and delivery using the regular feedbacks that come from consumers and stakeholders after every sprint.

MTD operation, is a compendium of smaller and unique processes that build up a robust temporary water Infrastructure that service venues and terrain. I recommend that an Iterative and agile approach which involves breaking down of a project into smaller, manageable chunks, and repeatedly cycling through a series of phases to deliver incremental value. Exceptions can be taken to implement the linear approach especially in areas where quantitative and qualitative information is available, environmental factors are clearly understood and accurate cost estimate is possible.

The implication of adopting Agile approach in a project management are: flexibility, quick delivery and collaboration. Agile enhances frequent feedback, assessments and adjustments, prioritizing customer satisfaction, accountability and stakeholder management.

If MTD seek my advice as a project manager, I will recommend she combine Agile and Iterative Approaches thereby leveraging the benefits of both methodologies to deliver successful projects that helps her manage risk and meet customer needs and expectations.
