Put yourself in the role of a project manager collaborating with MTD, an events company.
Considering the difficulties and problems that MTD encounters in their projects, what insights have you gained this week that could offer assistance?
If an iterative approach were employed in organizing an event as a project, what would be the consequences? Similarly, what are the implications of adopting an agile approach? If the company sought your advice, what would you recommend?

As a project manager working with MTD, I will recommend linear and iterative approaches as such project is known to be unstable. Both approaches create flexibility and adaptability, which is needed for the project to go smoothly.
I agree with this. There’s should also be use of tools like Slack and Asana to put clients on track about the project and facilitate collaboration. Project should be broken into smaller components.
To address MTD’s challenges using the VUCA framework, we need a hybrid project management approach that blends Agile (iterative) and waterfall (linear) methodologies. Agile, with Scrum at its core, helps manage volatility and uncertainty by allowing quick adaptations through sprints, daily stand-ups, and incremental deliverables. Meanwhile, Waterfall is useful for stable elements like venue booking, budgeting, and legal compliance, ensuring essential tasks are locked in early. This balance allows flexibility in handling changing event requirements while maintaining structure for critical fixed tasks.
For complexity and ambiguity, Scrum roles (Product Owner, Scrum Master, and Development Team) clarify responsibilities, and iterative planning ensures frequent feedback loops to align expectations. Breaking projects into smaller components, focusing on one aspect per sprint, simplifies coordination among multiple stakeholders. Digital tools like Slack and Trello facilitate collaboration, especially for distributed teams, while risk management is integrated into sprints to proactively address uncertainties. Well-defined aspects like contracts follow a linear process, whereas creative or dynamic tasks, such as event design, follow an iterative approach for continuous refinement.
Finally, implementation follows a structured plan: initiation defines scope and assigns roles, planning breaks the project into linear and iterative phases, and execution ensures iterative tasks progress while monitoring stable tasks. Regular Scrum ceremonies provide tracking and adaptation opportunities, ensuring seamless event execution despite unforeseen challenges. This hybrid model ensures MTD can navigate volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity while delivering high-quality, client-centric event experiences.
Both the Linear and iterative approach which were thought to be incompatible can actually work together as there can always be a place for innovative tweaks even though the structure(end product) is always already defined.
As an aspiring project manager, I will use both approach to get the work done with MTD
Project work such as the MTDs is known to be unstable, they have dying minute changes,so I’d recommend agile and iterative for more efficiency in the project work.
Start with linear then move to iterative
As an aspiring project manager. I will recommend an hybrid approach, which is a combination of both linear and Agile approach. This is due to the fact that the environment under which MTD operate is unstable, hence flexibility will be required.
Also the event needs to the planned step by step, as it has an objective it wants to achieve, also a detail description of how the project will unfold will also be required.
As an aspiring project manager, it should be noted that a project manager should not have a preference of one approach over another, which makes for the usage of both linear and iterative approach to a project completion. This is called hybrid and it promotes accountability and project acceleration to completion.
This week I got the understanding into the ability to adapt and get continuous feedback In project management especially on how these principles can help to address the challenges that are faced the MTD organization. Main while the Iterative approach can help to identify and ameliorate or mitigate issues early by allowing incremental adjustments which can improve results and reduce risk taken
I’m of the opinion that a project manager ought to be flexible as it will enable him combine both the linear approach and the iterative approach to achieve each project in relation to the Peculiarity of each project.
Agile on the other hand offers more flexibility and collaboration, enabling teams adjust approaches as gather feedbacks and insights throughout the development process. These gives rise to prioritize customer involvement and feedback within the developmental process.
My advice for MTD is
1. To identify the goals and constraints
2. Utilise soft skills
3. Create a scope and guard it
4. Account and prepare for risk.
As an aspiring project manager i will recommend both the iterative and agile method in carrying out the MTD project.
