Apply what you’ve learned (PM Course Discussion)

Put yourself in the role of a project manager collaborating with MTD, an events company.

Considering the difficulties and problems that MTD encounters in their projects, what insights have you gained this week that could offer assistance?

If an iterative approach were employed in organizing an event as a project, what would be the consequences? Similarly, what are the implications of adopting an agile approach? If the company sought your advice, what would you recommend?

  1. As a project manager, seeing that MTD is an event company. Using both approaches will be good but focus more on linear because handling events require detailed information of where, when and how the event should go which but also interactive approach coming in because I would need to give feedbacks and approvals from the clients.

  3. As a Project Manager, my approach will be based on each project’s peculiarity because some projects might have a more stable environment than others, including the duration of the project, the time of delivery, the resource available to me and stakeholder demands. However, on a more general sense, I will mostly adopt to an hybrid approach due to the flexibility it provides me as the Manager.

  4. As a project manager for MTD since they deal more on events, the linear approach will most likely be in use for most of their small events, since it may require a more straight up forward approach, but for bigger events that involves more stakeholders and activities, the iterative approach will work best, as it may come with more complex activities and deliverables and demands.

  5. As a PM, I will adopt both methods to achieve the MTD project. This is because there are advantages of using both and there will come stages where there will be a need to sprint and another where feedbacks are required. So, this will be discussed with stakeholders and as we move on with the project, we make use of the already agreed and planned method for each stage.

  6. A project’s peculiarity will determine the approach to it. It could be waterfall, agile or hybrid. In a VUCA world, iterative or hybrid approach produces better results.

The use of iterative approach in organizing event produces faster results and reduces budget. There’s also better stakeholder engagement.

My advice to MTD is to use an hybrid approach for excellent result.

  9. each project comes with its own problems, how we approach it matters. here karen approached it by thinking critically on how to sort the issue out and communicated it to john and they worked hand in hand to solve it.

  10. What I’ve learnt is that each project comes with different types of problems including different people and so the Project Manager has to be able to adapt. First one would be be have a team building session, in this way you can understand your team including their weaknesses and strengths.
