  1. Communication is not just by opening your mouth and saying a thing or two, but it’s about how your information is perceived and understood. Each individual, in this context “stakeholders”, need different approaches and different ways in which their take in information. Having a meeting at the beginning of the project with the sponsor (who is the most relevant stakeholder), would help clarify what information is needed and not needed for them to get. Reporting has to be in line with their needs and expectations. The flow of information to the sponsor should be regular as well, critical issues should be highlighted clearly to preserve the sponsor’s commitment to the project.
    As a Project manager, you should have a clearly written down communication plans for sponsors/ stakeholders, peers and the project team. Get to know how they want information sent across to them and the appropriate ways to do so.

It’s a take home that new challenges or bad news should not be presented for the first time where you have all your stakeholders, rather, every stakeholder should be approached and intimated individually before bringing it up in a group discussion.

    Communication is everything. It’s not just about talking, it includes how, when and where, also the body language of who you are talking to matters matters. Make sure the person your are talking to is engaged in the conversation [showing interest and contributing where and when necessary]. The method of communication also matters as some people might prefer phone conversations to face to face and vice versa. Make sure your stakeholders understand and are on the same page as you especially when there are changes in the funding or expenses and while bringing bad news to the table is not bad, make sure you have looked for solutions[exhausting all options you have] before presenting it to the team[stakeholders included].
