As a project manager it is very important to know how you approach your stakeholders using the right tool at the right time. Communication is a vital tool when dealing with stakeholders and clients. As a project manager for me to be up to date with informations regarding a project I have to keep communicating with the stakeholders in other to have more information and Incase there are changes in the process I will adhere to it and work
communicating regularly is very crucial always in dealing with clients and stakeholders,my priority would be to develop a comprehensive communication strategy that caters to the needs of all stakeholders.in my organization space communicating with the client must be brief and straightforward.
During the all the the session of learning in this platform i have come to the understanding that communication skill is a must have as a project manager because to effectively manage a project /team or group of people communication is essential . this would involve creating a communication channel in order to share information with your team /stakeholders either by way of MEMO, mail etc. and as a project manager the communication must be consistent, timely and understandable.
communication is as vital as the stake holders in PM, therefore pm should not be scared of also communicating the negative side of the project so that a clearer approach to the project can be gotten.
In the content of my organizations, I must keep constant communication with my stakeholders and follow up daily as we are told in the video, also know the right time and strategy to use in passing the information, over time I realized there is always an argument in our line of communication so I document all communication flows through WhatsApp platform even if you deny you are not informed, I quickly scroll through… Again I make sure I discuss and resolve issues immediately, that is how it works in my org. Communication is key and I have learned more about the skills to use in the video
From the learning so far, i think the first approach is to understand and know what kind of person your stakeholder are because just as communication is important, communicating rightly according to the stakeholder preference is important, so a project manager must focus on communicatimg correctly and effectively. He/she must say what is expected at a given time and space.
For me, in my organization space communicating with the parent must be brief and straightforward.
Every stakeholder is important as long as the project is involve. Honesty, transparency, Communication, how you communicate and when you communicate the information is vital, “You don’t say a problem in the presence of all stake holders is like dropping a bomb” I quote. While ensuring the success of the project, navigating every possible threat or problem and finding solution before the problem arise is a key to a project manager, this can reduce your errors, and increase your result.
Every stakeholder is important in the project and the best way to carry them along is by communication. But tailor your communication based on which stakeholder you are meeting. Some stakeholders would require facts, you don’t just tell stories to those ones, you go with details. Some others want to hear if there are challenges so they can help mitigate, others want to hear only the progress you are making, every other thing is behind. You have those that are just concerned with timelines. It is important you tailor your communication style to who you are talking to.
Exactly my take away from the video. Each stakeholders are unique, so your communication pattern has to also uniquely meet each other’s needs and expectations.
As a project manager, the importance of constant communication with the stakeholders cannot be over emphasized. I can relate with passing the needed information across to members of different sections of the project individually and going back to get feedback that helps me to know whether or not we’re making the expected progress, this is usually during major school events.
One thing I took from the video as a school administrator, is that I should not be afraid to talk about the bad news, however, I should have some solution handy to present having made proper reviews. This has better shapened my mindset on always wanting to present a perfect situation to my sponsors and school owners.
