In my role as a Quality Control Analyst, I’ve developed several project management skills. I plan and prioritize testing schedules to meet production timelines, coordinate with production and procurement teams to ensure smooth workflow, and manage documentation for compliance. I’m skilled in risk assessment, especially identifying potential quality issues early and implementing corrective actions. I also communicate findings clearly to stakeholders and adapt quickly when specifications, regulations, or materials change. These skills align closely with effective project management.
All the skills are very important to my success in this career but I can see the need to work on my time management skill, prioritizing what is important and urgent. Knowledge of the regulatory environment is also a must skill to possess.
My name is Precious Ogbein. I strongly believe in the power of transferable skills, and this course has further enlightened and strengthened that belief. As a sabbatical officer, I work on year-long plans and projects, and through this course, I’ve come to see just how essential communication and teamwork are—especially as someone who doesn’t naturally see themselves as a strong communicator.
The knowledge I’ve gained around regulatory frameworks has also deepened my understanding of what is and isn’t achievable within my university, particularly when it comes to aligning with institutional policies. It’s given me a solid grounding in how to leverage existing policies to benefit students effectively.
In my role as a student officer, I’ve also seen firsthand how standards and rules play out in real situations. Understanding and adhering to these standards often puts you in a better position or at least gives everyone a fair playing field.
Time management has been another major takeaway. With only a one-year term to plan and execute meaningful projects, I’ve realised how limited time really is—and how important it is to use it wisely.
Overall, this class has been truly impactful. It has allowed me to align my current responsibilities with the role of a project manager. In fact, the main difference I’ve noticed is simply the tools a project manager uses—but the mindset and skills are very much the same.
