As a procurement officer, I handle projects that require strong project management skills, even if I don’t carry the formal title of project manager. Communication is central to my work because I need to clearly explain requirements to suppliers and keep internal teams updated. I also use negotiation skills daily to secure the best terms with vendors while ensuring quality and compliance. Time management is equally important since I often juggle multiple requests and must meet strict deadlines to avoid delays in project delivery.
However, I see some gaps in my skills. While I follow ethics and standards in my work, I know I can still strengthen my knowledge of procurement regulations and policies to ensure I remain fully compliant in all cases. Another area I need to improve is continuing professional development, as I sometimes focus on immediate tasks and forget to invest in upgrading my skills. These gaps can limit my efficiency in handling more complex or large-scale projects.
To address these gaps, I plan to take more training courses on procurement laws and regulatory frameworks, as well as time management workshops to help me prioritize better. I also want to join professional networks or forums where I can learn from others in similar roles and stay updated on best practices. By improving in these areas, I believe I can manage projects more effectively and add more value to my role.
