  1. I’m Omotosho Malik, my journey on becoming a project manager has made it clear that I need to improve my communication and negotiation skills as they are vital in the making of a project manager alongside other skills.

    DEXA has set the pace it’s left to us to brace up and strive hard.

    I am Mavis-Claire Ekeh, a member of cohort 30 bootcamp, an aspiring project management specialist, and even in my current role, I understand that timely and clear communication, effective time management, and a solid understanding of regulatory policies apply to my projects, and adherence to them is essential to becoming an effective project manager. I also identify negotiation as a skill that requires further development to enhance my overall project delivery as well as stakeholder management.
    I believe I need to improve by including a deeper understanding of the regulatory environment and strengthening my knowledge of ethics and adherence to professional standards, as industries become more compliance-driven, and also develop myself professionally.

In my current role, even though I am not formally titled a project manager, project management skills are part of my daily responsibilities. Communication is essential, as I regularly coordinate with customers, team members, and external stakeholders to ensure tasks are clearly understood and completed efficiently. Time management is equally critical, especially when balancing multiple tasks, meeting deadlines, and prioritizing urgent issues. I also rely on negotiation skills when managing expectations, resolving conflicts, or finding mutually beneficial solutions with stakeholders.

    Areas I believe I need to improve include a deeper understanding of the regulatory environment and strengthening my knowledge of ethics and adherence to professional standards, particularly as industries become more compliance-driven. Additionally, continual professional development is an ongoing need, especially in keeping up with new tools, technologies, and best practices. To bridge these gaps, I plan to engage in relevant online courses and certifications, seek mentorship from experienced professionals, and stay informed through industry publications and webinars. By continuously developing these skills, I can contribute more effectively to my organization and handle projects with greater confidence and professionalism.
