The six skill areas are all important for successful project management. However, for my job as a project manager, the following are the most essential:
1.Communication: Effective communication helps me clearly share project goals, assign tasks, resolve conflicts, and keep stakeholders informed.
2.Negotiation: This is important for reaching agreements with clients, vendors, sponsors, and team members while balancing project objectives.
3.Time Management: Managing time effectively ensures projects are completed within schedule and deadlines are met.
4. Ethics and Adherence to Standards: Maintaining honesty, professionalism, and compliance with industry standards builds trust and ensures project success.
5.Continual Professional Development: Continuously learning new tools, technologies, and project management practices helps me remain effective and competitive.
Areas I need to improve: I need to strengthen my understanding of the regulatory environment by learning more about legal requirements, industry regulations, and compliance issues that affect project execution. I also aim to improve my negotiation skills to better manage contracts, resolve conflicts, and achieve favorable outcomes for all stakeholders.
For my current job as a Departmental head in an online academy, A good number of skills are very essential
1. Communication: I am responsible for communicating the standards and ethics of the academy with my subordinates
2. Time management: I oversee weekly tasks and plans and ensure that they meet a stipulated deadline
3. Knowledge of Regulatory environment: In this case, I don’t particularly study the environment as i am a major influencer. So, I ensure that ethics, protocols and procedures are clearly spelt out to facilitate the academy’s services.
