As we talked about before in this module, it’s important for project managers to work ethically. This means doing the right thing, not just following rules. There are written rules and laws, but there are also moral rules and values.
What are these moral rules and values? Let’s break it down with some explanations and examples.
Moral rules are like a list of dos and don’ts for how a person should behave. For instance, one moral rule is “don’t steal.”
Values are strong beliefs that guide how we act in different situations. They show what we think is good behavior. Values can be personal, but they can also be shared in groups like companies. When a bunch of people in the same group share these values, they shape how everyone acts in that group.
In companies, these shared values are super important. They make up the core of what the company’s culture is all about. These values are a small set of important beliefs that don’t change much, and they really influence how people act at work.
For example, The Open University (2019) has some values they believe in:
In our work, we stick to The Open University values of being inclusive, innovative, and responsive.
The value of being inclusive and innovative is a big part of what people do at The Open University. They use this value to make sure everyone can access knowledge through new and creative solutions.
Values and moral rules help everyone know how to behave in a group or at work. It’s good to think about them to understand how they affect the decisions we make when working on projects.
Think about the values your workplace or a group you’re in follows. Can you name some of these values? How do these values affect how you work on projects? Share your thoughts with other learners in the discussion below.

Ethical matters for good job well-done in most organizations has always include Being Honest, Ability to manage Time and following rules and regulations guiding the organization. If all these are put in place, there will be the values and principles at work.
In my organisation several values are held high for example we are big on Integrity
Discipline and Transparency
These values and others sets us Apart from Other Organisations Around
Integrity has helped us to largely to gain the trust if our Clients.Discipline helps us to persevere all through to the end of a project and Transparency helps us give Clear and Data based feedback to our Clients
in an organization, that strongly believe and encourage good work ethics, one has to be honest, diligent and be ready to work with other teams to ensure the project meets its targeted goals . having good morals and values at work place is very essential as it does not only speak of the individual but it also promotes a healthy work environment as a team and as an organization or companies.
Integrity is a fundamental value in public service. Workers involved in projects are expected to uphold ethical standards, transparency, and accountability. This ensures that project processes, decision-making, and outcomes are characterized by honesty and integrity.
There is always a moral principle that guide the services rendered by an organisation likewise in environment where a project is needed this should be taken cognisance of while planning, communicating and carrying out project.
In my organisation aside from the regulatory body we you exercise some duty of care as an employee which to me is the value while the organisation policies and procedures is the ethics.
Ethics are in a way should be like a norms for a team member.

In the organization that I belong to Moral Rules and Values are held in high esteem.
Time consciousness is key.
Time Management in the presentation of different programs help in quick delivery of projects.
Love inside and outside the working place environment makes colleagues to be able to work together in unity to achieve set goals.
No evil speaking of other colleagues to foster peace and good atmosphere for workers to move up together.
core values are the bane of an organisation. for example in my organisation, there is zero tolerance to lateness to work and lying.
no matter the situation, we are expected to report things exactly the way it occurred, no matter how good or bad it is.
