As we talked about before in this module, it’s important for project managers to work ethically. This means doing the right thing, not just following rules. There are written rules and laws, but there are also moral rules and values.
What are these moral rules and values? Let’s break it down with some explanations and examples.
Moral rules are like a list of dos and don’ts for how a person should behave. For instance, one moral rule is “don’t steal.”
Values are strong beliefs that guide how we act in different situations. They show what we think is good behavior. Values can be personal, but they can also be shared in groups like companies. When a bunch of people in the same group share these values, they shape how everyone acts in that group.
In companies, these shared values are super important. They make up the core of what the company’s culture is all about. These values are a small set of important beliefs that don’t change much, and they really influence how people act at work.
For example, The Open University (2019) has some values they believe in:

The value of being inclusive and innovative is a big part of what people do at The Open University. They use this value to make sure everyone can access knowledge through new and creative solutions.
Values and moral rules help everyone know how to behave in a group or at work. It’s good to think about them to understand how they affect the decisions we make when working on projects.

There is always a rules that guide the behavior of a person. Treat others the way you want to be treated..
Integrity:
Acting ethically and transparently in all business dealings, prioritizing doing the right thing over personal gain. It means being accountable and following through with decisions made, even if no one is around to see it. This makes leads to a project manager been truthful and avoiding anything illegal.
Innovation:
Pushing past the status quo with bold and progressive ideas. Being curious and challenging deeply ingrained assumptions and traditional methods. Innovation is learning from both successes and failures to forge a new path forward – all with a deep hunger for improvement. As a project manager, this helps in solving impediments and blockers that may arise during the project.
Accountability:
Owning the decisions made and their outcomes. It is more than simply acknowledging one’s mistakes but actively learning from them to drive positive outcomes. Taking ownership of one’s actions help foster a culture of trust and improved employee morale. As a project manager, you must be held accountable, learn mistakes, never repeat them.
Honesty:
Being upfront and forthcoming with information, insights, and processes. By creating a culture where truth is at the forefront, employees are able to address the problems openly and transparently at hand. Relationships built on honesty help build connections among employees and customers alike. As a project manager, every member of the team will act in honesty or dishonesty if you show them which to do.
The group am part of was an organization that are into passengers assistant in the airport. Some of the organizational values includes
* Honest and transparency, the passenger believe in you and will give their luggage to the staff not minding what are inside it
* The approach our organization uses in assisting passengers is quite different from the conventional approach used by other organizations in same field
* There is no one above mistake, acknowledge your mistake and take responsibility is also a value we used in the organization, take responsibility for your actions
* If there are difficult situations other staffs will collaborate to find solution to the Challenges

The value I grew up with and live by is ‘treat others how you’d want to be treated”. And it also aligns with my Christian belief. I think this encompasses a whole lot.

The organizational context where I work our moral and values are to be the preferred indigenous contractor, providing cost effective/leading edg tools rentals /equipment and integrated well engineering services. Our core values are integrity, honesty, quality, team work, leadership, and good customer relationship.
These greatly influences our work because we interface with clients and have a lot competitors who are ready to take up the contracts if we don’t adhere to what we promised to do by now we won’t be in business. This has really helped the company to continue booming.
