~~ Thinking about complexity – Discussion

Hello, this module focuses on how to manage projects in a complicated world. The world is changing rapidly and in unpredictable ways. Just consider the changes caused by new technology, worldwide trade and competition, social and political disturbances, and the environmental emergency.

You might think that project management has little to do with these major global matters. However, all kinds of organizations, whether large or small, are impacted by the world they operate in. How a company understands and responds to this complexity influences the projects it chooses to undertake and how it handles them.

This week, we begin by examining frameworks that help us grasp this intricate world. These frameworks guide our actions, responses, and decision-making in the face of complexity.

Next, we delve deeply into various methods and practices for managing projects when faced with uncertainty, instability, and change. These methods include linear approaches and life cycles, often known as the waterfall method, as well as iterative or agile approaches. You will explore the pros and cons of these methods, as well as the ongoing debates about them.

By the end, you’ll grasp how to use and blend these methods effectively to achieve successful project outcomes.

To start off this week, we’re interested in hearing about your experiences. Considering those major global issues like technology, competition, social and political changes, and environmental problems, think about how they impact your organization and the projects you’re involved in.

Feel free to share your experiences with fellow learners in the discussion.

  1. Technology does play a great role in Projects because more tools are coming up everyday and companies and firms would always go for PM’s who are up to date therefore the need for constant learning.

  2. Talking about how global issues have affected projects I’ve done and the organization I work for, due to the swift change in technology we’ve been made to learn various tech tools to keep up in order to catch up and also not lose clients to competitors.

  3. Global challenges like technology shifts, political changes, and environmental crises create complexity that affects how organizations choose and manage projects. Combining flexible agile methods with structured waterfall approaches helps organizations adapt and succeed in this uncertain environment.

  4. Global issues affect my projects in many ways. Technology changes how we engage people, while social and political shifts influence partnerships and support. Competition pushes us to be more innovative, and the environmental crisis makes our advocacy more relevant. These challenges remind us to stay flexible and intentional in project work.

  5. Competition is one of the marketing strategies used, and before diving into that one needs to be xtra careful cause competition pays a huge role while technology is advancing and comes with new upgrading systems, technology helps the job/project be in fast pave so without technology we will have a slow of projects. Same goes with the environment and our social and political views……Environment makes a meaning impact on your project and it becomes of the major factors in projects

  6. Global issues strongly affect how my organization runs projects. For example, technology is changing very fast, and we have to keep learning and upgrading our systems. If we don’t, our work can easily fall behind. This means that every new project must consider how technology can improve efficiency, save costs, and meet customer needs.

Competition also plays a big role. Other organizations in the same field are offering faster and cheaper services, which pushes us to plan projects more carefully. We cannot waste time or resources because the market is very competitive. As a result, projects are often designed with a focus on speed, cost-saving, and quality delivery.

Social and political changes also influence projects. Sometimes, new government policies or leadership changes create unexpected delays or require adjustments. For example, a new regulation might mean reworking part of a project plan. Social changes, like the rise of remote work, also affect how teams are managed and how communication happens during projects.

The environmental crisis is another major issue. My organization now considers sustainability when planning projects. This could mean reducing waste, saving energy, or finding eco-friendly suppliers. Clients and stakeholders are also asking more questions about the environmental impact of projects, so it has become a key factor in decision-making.
