Experts have a clear understanding of the potential advantages that diversity brings to teams and organizations.
APM acknowledges that diverse teams generally outperform homogeneous ones. This correlation is increasingly evident in the performance and financial outcomes of organizations.
Does this align with your personal experience?
In a previous section, you explored exceptional and high-performing teams. Based on your own observations, do you see a connection between diversity and performance? Do teams with greater diversity produce superior work? Additionally, what challenges arise when working in highly diverse teams?
We are genuinely interested in hearing about your experiences and thoughts regarding these questions in the discussion section.

Diverse teams performs best. Everyone brings their different cognitive abilities together to achieve the project goals.
Diverse teams tends to bring about more creative ideas due to the fact that it leads to different ideas, solutions and innovations.
However, diversity tends to lead to most times language barriers, thus communication issues, but still it is also better.
Yes, diverse teams often perform better. They bring different perspectives and skills, leading to more creative solutions and innovation. In past projects, diverse team members helped us approach challenges from various angles, improving outcomes.
However, diversity also presents challenges, like communication issues and differing working styles. It takes time to align on goals and establish trust. Despite this, the benefits—such as creativity and adaptability—usually outweigh the challenges, making diverse teams more effective in problem-solving and project success.
As I reflect on MTD’s challenges, I believe adopting an iterative approach to event planning could be a game-changer. This week’s learnings have shown me the value of flexibility and adaptability in project management.
By breaking down complex events into smaller chunks, testing and refining components, and incorporating feedback, MTD can respond to changing requirements, manage risks, and enhance stakeholder engagement.
My advice would be to start small, experiment, and learn. Invest in training and development, and establish clear communication channels. By embracing an iterative and agile approach, MTD can deliver more successful events and build stronger relationships with stakeholders.
Yes teams with greater diversity do produce excellent result than homogenous team. In homogenous team, there seems to be that familiarity among members and as such there is no competition, but there is competition in greater diversity because each member will strive to be the best among others and this bring combination of different ideas for greater result.
There’s a big connection between diversity and performance as each one come up with unique ideas from their various areas and organisations to produce a great project outcome.
Definitely, teams with greater diversity produce excellent and more superior work than homogenous teams cos they’ll always display different ideas, ability and energy from previous experience and spheres .
Their challenges include;
Culture
Language barrier
Beliefs
Educational level.
These challenges can be conquered through effective communication and trainings .
Through my experience I can say there is indeed relationship between diversity and performance, especially when I managed an induction/welcoming ceremony. Back then during my youth service(NYSC), at my corper’s lodge, I was charged with the responsibility to organizing an induction ceremony. As the project manager, I had to work with diverse teams of people who I wasn’t sure they could function in such capacity so as to succeed. However, when we came together to discussed and mapped out our plans and strategies for a successful induction, the team was eager to significantly contribute to the achievement of the goal. Through division of labour, communication, follow up, motivation, discipline and sacrifice we were all able to achieve a successful induction ceremony.
So I agree that more diverse team do better because, they come together with their uniqueness and ability to cause positive change and they contribute their intellectual ideas and experience towards a successful project.
The challenges of working with highly diverse team is not far fetched from the individuals and what industry they are coming from, their background (culture, language etc), conflict of interest which could spring forth if the goal of the project or task at hand are not re- enforced to guide against deviation. Communication is highly needed, so as to ensure the goal of the team coming together in the first place is achieved, especially if the teams are either meeting via video conferencing (Zoom) or on-site.
To me Diverse teams always have greater results and performance than the homogeneous teams. The diverse team tends to focus more on the goals and vision, they ensure the project is successful.
One of the crucial challenge of Diverse team is communication barrier, but the importance overwhelmed the challenges that comes with making use of diverse teams
In my experience, Diverse teams perform better than a homogeneous team, because there is the absence of social connection and prior perspective about each other which would always help them have an unbiased perspective and holistic agreement void of sentiment
This relate to my experience, there’s actually a connection between diversity and performance because they have low-social cohesion hence making them focus on their main purpose which is to deliver on the projects work. Hence, teams with greater diversity tends to produce great results.
However, when working in highly diverse teams, there might be challenges of timezones differences, language barrier and individual work preference.
