Experts have a clear understanding of the potential advantages that diversity brings to teams and organizations.

Does this align with your personal experience?

In a previous section, you explored exceptional and high-performing teams. Based on your own observations, do you see a connection between diversity and performance? Do teams with greater diversity produce superior work? Additionally, what challenges arise when working in highly diverse teams?

We are genuinely interested in hearing about your experiences and thoughts regarding these questions in the discussion section.

  1. I do believe that diverse teams do better work. Diversities in knowledge, mode operation, technical know-how and other aspects of projects could make a positive impact on the progress rate of the project.
On the other hand, teams that are overly diverse may find it difficult to work together because a lot of time and resources may be spent on trying to get the team on board with the vision of a project perceived from many extreme points of view.

Honestly, I’ve not really taken note of this assertion. Being in the construction sector, I’ve for the most part worked with teams that are homogeneous in nature. But I agree that in different areas like in the emergency management team, the higher level of diversity could bring about a higher performance. One reason for that could be the fact that each of the team members would want to show enthusiasm and commitment and create the impression that they are competent and hard working.
    Thank you

  4. Yes, this aligns with my experience because teams made up of people from different backgrounds and ideas often come up with better solutions and make smarter decisions. When a team has diversity in skills, culture, gender, and thinking styles, they usually produce stronger results because they see problems from different angles. However, highly diverse teams can sometimes face challenges like misunderstandings, communication gaps, or conflicts, which require good leadership and respect to manage properly.

  5. Well no doubt that a diverse team can or does produce great results. However, I feel a homogeneous with diverse skills team would produce a better result even in a complex situation hence, they are available to work. This is because their communication level is at its peak and one major factor in to achieving a successful project aside knowledge, skills and expertise is communication which this people have built over time.
