Put yourself in the role of a project manager collaborating with MTD, an events company.
Considering the difficulties and problems that MTD encounters in their projects, what insights have you gained this week that could offer assistance?
If an iterative approach were employed in organizing an event as a project, what would be the consequences? Similarly, what are the implications of adopting an agile approach? If the company sought your advice, what would you recommend?

This week I learnt that ,Treating the event like software. You plan, test, get feedback, and adjust in cycles instead of locking everything upfront.
And the vuca talks about volatility , complexity, uncertainty, and ambiguity
From what I have learnt so far, MTD operates in a complex project environment because temporary water installations for large sporting events involve multiple stakeholders, strict deadlines, logistics, safety requirements, and changing customer needs. Common challenges include stakeholder coordination, risk management, resource constraints, compliance requirements, and managing changing demands during project execution.
An iterative approach allows teams to continuously plan, review, test, and improve project activities throughout the project lifecycle. This approach can help identify problems early, encourage stakeholder feedback, and improve project outcomes, although it may require additional coordination and resources.
An Agile approach provides flexibility, promotes collaboration, encourages faster decision-making, and allows teams to respond quickly to changing requirements. However, Agile may also create challenges if communication is poor or project requirements continuously change without control.
If I were advising MTD, I would recommend adopting a hybrid approach that combines traditional project management with iterative and Agile principles. This would provide enough structure to meet fixed event deadlines while maintaining flexibility to manage uncertainties and changing project requirements effectively.
In this moduel i learnt about unpacking decision making using VUCA dimention.
talks on the 1. complexity 2. volatility 3. Ambiguity and uncertainty.
This week, I learned that projects are not always predictable because we live in a VUCA world filled with volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity. For an events company like MTD, unexpected changes such as client requests, venue issues, weather conditions, or budget constraints can affect project delivery.
I think taking an iterative approach to setting up an event would help because the team can review progress at different stages, get feedback, and make adjustments before the final event. This reduces the chances of major mistakes and helps ensure that stakeholder expectations are met.
An agile approach would also be beneficial because it allows the team to respond quickly to changes and focus on delivering value throughout the project. Instead of strictly following an initial plan, the team can adapt when new information or challenges arise.
If I were asked to advise MTD, I would recommend a flexible approach that combines careful planning with the ability to adapt when necessary. This would help the company manage uncertainty better, meet client needs, and deliver successful events even in a changing environment.
This week, I learned that iterative and agile approaches can help MTD manage changes and reduce project risks. An iterative approach allows the team to review and improve event plans in stages, helping to identify issues early.
An agile approach provides flexibility by encouraging regular feedback and quick adjustments when client requirements change. However, it requires strong communication and teamwork.
My advice to MTD would be to use both approaches combine traditional planning for key event deadlines with agile practices such as regular reviews and stakeholder feedback. This would provide both structure and flexibility for successful event delivery.
Your point of view caught my eye and was very interesting. Thanks. I have a question for you.

Thanks for sharing. I read many of your blog posts, cool, your blog is very good.
As a Project Manager working with MTD, I’d recommend both the Linear and Iterative approach. As the linear approach will ensure that the initial plans and goals are followed while still maintaining flexibility in case of success of plans and initial thoughts. Both approach is essential inorder for the stakeholders to be well carried along and proper communication and report at every stage.
Also utilizing the agile approach, to ensure there’s swift response to a necessary change.
