  1. As a Project Transaction Support Analyst in Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs), I recognize that my role requires a diverse set of skills to effectively support project transactions and ensure successful collaboration between public and private entities.

    Essential Skills for My Role
    1. Communication – I regularly interact with government agencies, private investors, legal advisors, and financial institutions. A clear, concise communication ensures alignment on project goals, risk allocation, and compliance requirements.
    2. Understanding the Regulatory Environment – PPPs operate within a complex legal and regulatory framework. I need to be well-versed in procurement laws, financial regulations, and compliance standards to ensure project feasibility and adherence to legal requirements.
    3. Negotiation – Structuring PPP agreements requires negotiation skills to balance risk-sharing, financial commitments, and project incentives between stakeholders. Strong negotiation ensures equitable and sustainable agreements.
    4. Time Management – Given the long-term nature of PPP transactions, I must efficiently manage timelines, track deliverables, and ensure milestones are met to avoid costly delays.

    Areas I Need to Improve
    1. Ethics and Adherence to Standards – While I understand the importance of ethical decision-making, I want to strengthen my knowledge of international best practices in project finance governance, transparency, and anti-corruption measures.
    2. Continual Professional Development – The PPP landscape is constantly evolving with new financing mechanisms, regulatory updates, and industry innovations. I need to stay updated to remain effective in my role.

    Steps I Will Take to Bridge These Gaps
    1. Pursue Further Training & Certifications – I plan to enroll in Certified PPP Professional (CP3P) courses and other project finance certifications to deepen my expertise.
    2. Engage in Mentorship & Networking – I will actively participate in industry forums, conferences, and regulatory workshops to exchange knowledge with experienced professionals.
    3. Analyze Case Studies – By reviewing successful and failed PPP projects, I can gain insights into best practices and common pitfalls to avoid.
    4. Enhance My Ethical Awareness – I will take compliance and anti-corruption training to strengthen my understanding of ethical project financing and governance.
    5. Improve My Time Management Techniques – I will leverage project management tools like MS Project or Asana to track project timelines, deadlines, and tasks more efficiently.

    By taking these steps, I aim to enhance my expertise and ensure I contribute effectively to structuring and supporting successful PPP transactions.

  2. I have never had any Project Management role.
    But As a Microfinance expert, communication and negotiation skills are crucial for:
    Building trust with clients, effective loan disbursements and repayments, financial literacy education, conflict resolution, successful partnerships and collaborations, policy advocacy and team management.
    Strong communication and negotiation skills help Microfinance experts serve clients better, build stronger relationships, and drive institutional success.

  3. As someone who hasn’t quite found her niche yet, I’ve realized that communication is a fundamental requirement in every field, whether written or oral. I won’t deceive myself—I am competent in all these skills, but my level of expertise varies across them. For instance, I would rate my ‘communication skills’ higher than my ‘time management skills’, and both are overall stronger than my ‘negotiation skills’.
    This is why I push myself to explore unfamiliar fields, as I believe no knowledge is ever wasted. This mindset aligns with ‘continuing professional development’, ensuring that I remain adaptable and open to growth. Additionally, ‘knowledge of the regulatory environment’ and ‘ethics and standards’ stand out to me due to my experience at the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), where adherence to standards and ethical guidelines is crucial in enabling businesses to deliver quality products to consumers.

  4. I don’t have a role in Project Management, the skills that stand out for me are communication, time management, and Continuing Professional Development.
    Continuing Professional development is key to me because knowledge evolves and needs to be upgraded.

As someone who has a background as an Educator, I identify communication as one of those skills I have including time management, ethics and adherence to standards, understanding the regulatory environment. On the flip side, negotiation, and continual professional development stands as a gap and on this area, I need improvement starting off a career path in the PM industry.
    These gap is only visible because I’m starting off on a new path as novice and being an optimistic learner, I believe I will learn to fill in these gap and practice to get better at it.

  6. I believe all six are essential for my job as a Project Manager.
    I identify strengths in Communication, Time Management, Ethics and Standards; because I’ve found them applicable in many other endeavours.
    However, the gaps for me are Negotiation, Understanding the regulatory Environment and Continual Professional Development.
    I believe these gaps exist because I am a novice, and with time, as I stay committed to this career path, I will forge ahead and get better. As they say, “practice makes perfect”.

  7. Although, I don’t have a current role or Project Management position but the skills that stands out for me is communication, time management and Continuing Professional Development.
    Continuing Professional development is key to me because knowledge evolves and there is need to upgrade.
    The step I will take going forward to bridge this skill is expand my knowledge on what I have known and get new knowledge of what I don’t know.

    1.Communication- communication is very important for training employees, reporting hazards, and ensuring safety compliance.
    2. Understanding the regulatory environment– this is very necessary for compliance with health, safety, and environmental laws.
    3. Ethics and adherence to standards, this ensures integrity and compliance with HSE regulations.

    I need to improve on my negotiating skills, it is useful when advocating for better safety measures or budget approvals.
    -Also, time management, which will help me in handling multiple safety inspections, reports, and training sessions efficiently.

    To bridge these gaps, I can take negotiation training, use time management tools, and engage in continuous professional development through certifications and workshops.

  9. For an HSE specialist role, the most essential skills I need from the list are:

  10. Although I don’t hold a formal project management role, I can certainly reflect on the six areas of skill development needed for effective project management. Here are the typical areas:

    Leadership: The ability to inspire and guide a team.
    Communication: Effectively conveying ideas, expectations, and feedback.
    Time Management: Ensuring deadlines are met and tasks are completed on schedule.
    Risk Management: Identifying and mitigating potential risks throughout the project.
    Scope Management: Defining and controlling what is included in the project to prevent scope creep.
    Quality Control: Ensuring the project deliverables meet the required standards.

    For me, communication stands out as an essential skill, as I regularly interact with users to understand their needs, explain complex ideas, and ensure clarity in conversations. My role is about ensuring the exchange of information is clear and helpful, which is very similar to what a project manager would do when communicating with stakeholders.

    As for skill gaps, time management in terms of prioritizing tasks to provide accurate and timely responses could be a focus area for improvement, especially when it comes to understanding and addressing long-term project goals or handling multiple projects with various time-sensitive needs.
