Practical activity 2: Product Management Course: How does Apple create positive UX?

Let’s take a look at how Apple creates great examples of products that create positive user experiences and set the standard for similar products offered by competitors:

  • The iPhone 5 smartphone used a revolutionary design, with its all-metal case and glass front, giving users a highly usable, quality product that fulfilled the basic functions of a smartphone with the desirable features of luxury and ease of use. [1]
  • Apple’s 2012 MacBook Air set new standards for laptop aesthetics by enabling the Apple logo to light up as well as offering users the world’s slimmest laptop design at the time. It left Windows laptops playing catch-up for many years, particularly in the elements of desirable ‘look and feel’. [2]

Apple continues to ensure that creating delight for user experience is present in all its products by setting standards for product design.

Instructions: Describe a good or bad experience with Apple OR any product

Think about products that you have had a good or bad experience with and respond to the questions.

  1. Reflect on a good or bad experience you had when using an Apple product or another similar product.
  2. Post your experience in the community discussion group. Why do you think your experience was positive or negative? Provide reasons for your answer.
  3. Respond to at least one of your peers’ responses to see if anyone experienced the same as you. What do you think of their reasons?

Next, let’s take a look at how you can apply design thinking for your product design and development.

  1. I would say my negative experience with an apple product , precisely my Apple Ipad Air 3 .
I as a teacher that creates documents from Google docs for my students that has to do with typing, editing and creating.
With Apple this has always been an hassle as the experience with Google docs on Apple is totally different to a normal PC or an Android device.
I think with the expensive amount we spend in acquiring Apple products it’s wrong and non efficient if the Ipad or apple products can’t produce and all round features where by we won’t long for any other device to deliver their non capable features.
Apple and Google aren’t working hand in hand ,and it’s high time Apple realise the world evolves around Google featured and all devices had to compromise and perfect their features to Google compatibility .

  2. I had a really good experience with the Apple AirPods Pro. From the moment I got them, everything just felt smooth and easy. Pairing them with my iPhone was so quick, and they worked perfectly with my MacBook too. What really stood out for me was the noise-canceling feature—it made a big difference when I needed to focus in noisy places like cafes or during commutes. The sound quality was also amazing—clear vocals and deep bass made listening to music and podcasts a lot more enjoyable.

I think the reason my experience was so positive is because Apple clearly puts a lot of thought into making things user-friendly. The AirPods fit comfortably, even after wearing them for hours, and the touch controls made switching between modes or pausing music feel so natural. Plus, the battery lasts long enough to get through most of my day, and when it’s low, it charges up really quickly.

If I could suggest one improvement, it would be to make them a bit tougher. They look great, but they can get scratched easily. A more durable finish would make them even better, especially for people like me who use them daily and carry them everywhere.

  3. I will use food products (Mirinda and Fanta drink drink) as a case study

Growing up, I really loved Fanta and Mirinda because of the sweet orange flavor but of recent Mirinda isn’t as good as it used to be, the last time I took it, it tasted like sugar and water mixed with flavor, I had to decide not to take it again.

    Fanta still maintains it taste.

  4. I currently use a Samsung device and my experience has been positive.
The resolution is vibrant and clear, it’s easy to use and understand.
Despite having very expensive accessories, it still gives me quality for my money .
