You might think that project management has little to do with these major global matters. However, all kinds of organizations, whether large or small, are impacted by the world they operate in. How a company understands and responds to this complexity influences the projects it chooses to undertake and how it handles them.
This week, we begin by examining frameworks that help us grasp this intricate world. These frameworks guide our actions, responses, and decision-making in the face of complexity.
Next, we delve deeply into various methods and practices for managing projects when faced with uncertainty, instability, and change. These methods include linear approaches and life cycles, often known as the waterfall method, as well as iterative or agile approaches. You will explore the pros and cons of these methods, as well as the ongoing debates about them.
By the end, you’ll grasp how to use and blend these methods effectively to achieve successful project outcomes.

Technology now days has improved and influence the PMs. You can now meet your teams without seeing face to face. You can organize meetings and the likes online. Like Zoom, Team, google meet, WhatsApp, etc. And arrive at a valid point… also, using of AI. Etc … technology has also made it possible to learn more and research using YouTube and google….
People’s mindset has changed drastically due to the rapidly changing environment and technologies and as such the approaches to solving problems or managing a project needs to evolve too.
The new changes sometimes makes it easier to solve some problems that arises while managing a project and some times it presents you with a new problems to solve in other to achieve the goal of the project you are presented with.
Thinking or considering those major global issues like technology, competition, social and political changes and environmental crisis brings curiousity in mind but, as an aspiring P.M we are thought to have an eagle eye for project issues, thrives on problem, break processes to create new ones.
Technology has positively affected the speed of projects in the sense that one doesn’t really have to meet face to face before having a meeting and sharing ideas. Competition on the other hand has given room for improvement n research. You would always want to be the talk of the town as well as at the top of your game hence your decision not to allow any other company surpass you(not in a mean way though). Etc
People’s mindsets are evolving swiftly, driven by technological advancements and shifts in the environment. These changes have given rise to entirely new challenges, sparking the initiation of new projects. Moreover, the methodologies employed to address these issues have undergone significant alterations in response to this shifting landscape.
Technology changes, and as company you need to evolve with it, and learn how to use the new technology your advantage (this might take little time)…
Competition makes one to be better at what he/she does, so it’s a challenge to make sure we deliver better, making client comfortable, build influence to gain more projects.
Social and political change can affect really bad, you will have to learn the new change, and adapt with it, so u can easily fit in the society..
Environmental crisis can destroy a project, can hinder any project from coming, one have to find a way to survive through with the crisis…
Taliking about globalization, such as technology, competition change in politics and climate change(enveronmental crisis) startle our minds at times when it comes to managing of projects, because as an engineer in a construction firm laying down the prerequisites of a project some issues are underlying.
Working as an engineer the issues affecting our organisation’s at the moment is climate change (environmental crisis), with this current season, we find it difficult to get some jobs done during downpour which will take us back to re-schedulling of jobs and making changes to time lines because the weather might get cloudy at the point of executing some jobs.
Another issue is political change :this is also a major issue to some of the construction/engineering firm because when there is a change in government comes with a change in plans and allocations as one government interest of project differs from the other.
The mindsets of people are changing rapidly due to technological advancements and environmental changes, which have created completely new problems and of course, new projects to take on, and the approaches used to solve the problems have also been affected.
Project management has been greatly influenced and improved by technology in that team members can be virtually introduced during meetings without having to meet one on one and ideas can be exchanged. With recent technological advancements, problem solving has become easier. Because it is simple to find solutions from many different perspectives, the modern environment is crucial to effective management.
On the other hand, competition has created space for advancement and research. To succeed, a project must be created to meet market demands and stand out in crowded markets.
Technology is actually influencing te world with a lot of information that as been provided. it is pertinent to now sieve out what is needed and use tat effectively in the work place
The world is sure volatile and considering Global issues like technology, competition, social & political changes, environmental crises my country Nigeria is sure not left out.
We had a Diagnostic center project sometime ago and the use of appropriate technology to accommodate top notch service delivery was a big one because the world has gone beyond manual settings. The competition on that project is not a child’s play, so to be recognized in the field, you go all out to beat the competition or at most be at par with competition. If a new government enters today and favours healthcare, healthcare businesses will thrive better because a lot of awareness will reach the grassroots because it is coming from the leaders, a lot of social interactions will be done around all of these. Covid 19 is a good example of what crises in the environment can lead to. People now have options in handling some businesses, some workplace have policies enacted to pre-stall future negative effects that might come from such environmental changes
