Hello, this module focuses on how to manage projects in a complicated world. The world is changing rapidly and in unpredictable ways. Just consider the changes caused by new technology, worldwide trade and competition, social and political disturbances, and the environmental emergency.
You might think that project management has little to do with these major global matters. However, all kinds of organizations, whether large or small, are impacted by the world they operate in. How a company understands and responds to this complexity influences the projects it chooses to undertake and how it handles them.
This week, we begin by examining frameworks that help us grasp this intricate world. These frameworks guide our actions, responses, and decision-making in the face of complexity.
Next, we delve deeply into various methods and practices for managing projects when faced with uncertainty, instability, and change. These methods include linear approaches and life cycles, often known as the waterfall method, as well as iterative or agile approaches. You will explore the pros and cons of these methods, as well as the ongoing debates about them.
By the end, you’ll grasp how to use and blend these methods effectively to achieve successful project outcomes.
To start off this week, we’re interested in hearing about your experiences. Considering those major global issues like technology, competition, social and political changes, and environmental problems, think about how they impact your organization and the projects you’re involved in.
Feel free to share your experiences with fellow learners in the discussion.

Technology and competition play a vital role in every day organization, in construction that i’m in technology help with competition, in which big construction companies get more project than they small ones because they have the equipments and technology to carry out sophisticated project and complete it on time.
While political changes too play a major role as a change in government as we already have in Nigeria is affecting the price of cement and iron which is affecting projects all over the country.
new technology, worldwide trade and competition, social and political disturbances, and the environmental emergency.
new technology which change every day affect the implementation of the project since the team need to cope with the new technology employed, this requires time, money and delay of the implementation of the project hence high cost of project implementation.
worldwide trade and competition. globalization brings pressure and competition onto the projects wherever it is being carried out since it is very easy to access different information and products that are similar to the one provided in a certain project. this might result in pressure, failure and termination of the project. this requires a PM to always observe and updated such that he/she has all information of what is happening all over the world.
social and political disturbance. this factor can hinder the implementation of the project as long as political and social situation changes like when there is a problem of insecurity or political conflicts between different parts.
however all mentioned factors can either affect positively or negatively.
The nature of the competition faced in an organisation or its services, and financial resources available within the economy affects the organisation or its projects.
Also, new approaches to doing new and old things, and tackling new and old problems; these do not necessarily involve technical equipment – they can be novel ways of thinking or of organising.
Globalisation and technology impacts every field differently and cannot be over emphasized how technology has made project delivery seamless just from the comfort of your office, government policies however could impact positively or negatively depending on the the constraints it might pose to ones project delivery in terms of financial capacity.
Project management are affected by all of these factors that why you one has to be flexible and be updated
During the COVID LOCKDOWN which restricted international flights to all countries, so many projects were stalled while others utilize available service providers within the country to complete their projects and start production of the goods.
This was a big milestone for service providers that completed projects that were halfway done and new projects from scratch saving money (FX) for the factory owners.
Project management are affected by all these factors that why you must be flexible, open to information.
Certainly, the Organization I proudly belong to, the Nigerian Air Force would be impacted by these global issues.
Technological advancements may affect aircraft capabilities and maintenance requirements.
Increased global competition could influence defense strategies and partnerships.
Social and political changes may shape mission objectives and international relations.
Environmental problems could impact operational conditions and resource planning.
It is crucial for the Nigerian Air Force to adapt and collaborate to navigate these challenges effectively.
Competition can affect project positively and negatively. Competition often motivates project managers to become more focus and committed to achieve set goals. Competition can sometimes drive project managers to compromise on ethical standards.
Technology affected project, cos most people bow use modern technology at their place of work to manage and organize their projects
Without necessarily needs of projects manager
