Various definitions of the concept of quality have been put forward.
One generic definition (Pass, 2006b) is as follows:
The overall characteristics of a product or service that fulfill the requirements of customers in terms of quality.
This definition aligns with the viewpoint of Joseph Juran, who, in the 1950s, defined quality as ‘fitness for use’ (as quoted in ASQ, 2019).
This definition is largely consistent with the definition of quality provided by APM (2019, p. 214):
The suitability for the intended purpose and the degree to which the output of a process or the process itself conforms to the requirements.
Now take a moment to consider the following statements about quality. Which ones do you agree with?
- Quality should prioritize the customer’s needs.
- Quality is an internal focus.
- Quality should be considered from the project’s inception.
- The execution phase of a project is crucial for achieving quality goals.
- Quality issues should be openly discussed to identify corrective actions.
- Quality problems should be concealed from customers and possibly managers.
- Individuals are enthusiastic about producing high-quality outcomes.
- Team members do not produce quality outputs without close supervision.
Share your thoughts on these statements in the discussion section below.

I agree with all the statements about quality. By following these principles, project managers can help to ensure that their projects produce high-quality outputs that meet the customer’s needs.
I completely agree with the following characteristics.
Quality is essential because it’s durable and will stand the rest of time so it needs to be inculcated to produce a good output.
I agree with all the characteristics given because, “Quality refers to a product or service’s attributes that meet client needs, ensuring internal and process compliance. It is crucial to prioritize client demands, consider quality issues from the beginning, and maintain frank discussions to find solutions. Maintaining quality is essential for delivering top-notch results, and rigorous supervision is essential for team members to achieve this.”
Thank you.
I completely agree with these terms regarding quality. Quality should be prioritised because it is an integral part of Humans existence. Quality will go a long way to determine whether customers will stick to your products or choose a close alternative.
Point 1: I agree that quality should be focused on the customer’s needs for a better outcome.
Point 2: I propose that quality should be focused internally in the consideration of a project. It should be a core goal to be achieved.
Point 3: Quality should be considered from the onset of the project so as to have great output and for future recommendations and equally to have maintained standard.
Pont 4: The execution phase of a project is the most critical to achieve quality targets because this is where a project manager, project team apply their organizational standards, ethical values, accurate goals and decisions involving managing costs of budget, time and applying professionalism. These will determine how a project should be executed to achieve quality targets.
Point 5: I agree that quality issues should be discussed openly to find corrective actions. This is to avoid producing substandard results.
Point 6 is not always true because quality problems even If hidden from customers, should not be hidden from managers. This is also where organizational values fall in. A project team should be able to find workable solutions to quality problems to maintain the integrity of their products while putting their customers at heart.
For Point 7, not at all times are people always keen on producing quality products. Producing quality products is dependent on the level of the customer-centric values of an organization, their level of integrity which some people don’t always possess.
Point 8: This is not always true. Though behind every successful team is a supervisor who supervises the the extent of a project and his team members. When team members are provided with the necessary tools to perform well, clear expectations, supported with the right attitude and motivations from their project supervisors and managers, they seem to produce quality outputs even without close supervision.
quality should be considered from the beginning of the project. everything done in the project work must be of high standard quality.
From this lesson I agree with the following
1. The quality of the project should be considered from the beginning of the project
2. The quality should be focused on the customer’s needs
3. The quality issues should be discussed openly to find corrective actions
Lastly, The quality should go through the quality assurance officer and feedback receive from the client.
Quality is simply what the customer or stakeholder needs from the project deliverables. it also what the customers needs. Some of the most common quality characteristics are performance, functionality, suitability, reliability, consistency and more.
Quality should be discussed from the beginning of the project so that the team, stakeholders and project manager know what to expect and how to make adjustments if they aren’t getting it right
• Quality should be focused on the customer’s needs: This statement is widely accepted in quality management. Customer satisfaction is a key aspect of quality, and products or services should be designed and delivered to meet or exceed customer expectations.
• Quality is focused internally: This statement contradicts the customer-centric approach of quality management. While internal processes and standards contribute to achieving quality, the ultimate goal is to meet customer needs and expectations.
• Quality should be considered from the beginning of the project: This statement aligns with best practices in quality management. Considering quality from the project’s inception ensures that it is integrated into all stages of the project lifecycle, leading to better outcomes.
• The execution phase of a project is the most critical to achieve quality targets: While the execution phase is indeed crucial, quality should be addressed throughout the entire project lifecycle. Neglecting quality in earlier phases can result in rework, delays, and cost overruns during execution.
• Quality issues should be discussed openly to find corrective actions: Open discussion of quality issues is essential for continuous improvement. Identifying and addressing quality issues openly helps in finding effective corrective actions and preventing their recurrence in the future.
• Quality problems should be hidden from customers and possibly also managers: This statement contradicts the principles of transparency and accountability in quality management. It is generally considered unethical and counterproductive to conceal quality problems. Open communication fosters trust and allows for timely resolution.
• People are keen on producing quality outputs: Individuals generally strive to produce quality outputs. Quality is often seen as a source of personal pride and professional satisfaction. However, this can vary depending on factors such as organizational culture, training, motivation, and individual attitudes.
• Team members do not produce quality outputs without close supervision: This statement is generally not accurate. While supervision and guidance are important, effective training, clear expectations, and a supportive work environment can empower team members to produce quality outputs independently.
I believe that quality should always be a priority over quantity. Having said that, these are the following statements I agree with;
•Quality should prioritize the customer’s needs.
•Quality should be considered from the project’s inception.
•The execution phase of a project is crucial for achieving quality goals.
•Quality issues should be openly discussed to identify corrective actions.
•Individuals are enthusiastic about producing high-quality outcomes.
In project management, quality is simply what the customer or stakeholder needs from the project deliverables.
Because it enables a range of problem-solving strategies and performance that yields results, diversity in a team is essential.
People are creative when given the opportunity to express themselves and provide their ideas in accordance with their knowledge, experience, and background. When everything comes together, it produces fruitful results, and the project is finished.
The project manager will have a tough time handling all ideas, understanding, and effectively interacting with all team members in order to avoid misunderstandings.

Quality should be focused on from the beginning of a given project. If not done, it affects the outcome of the project negatively. This will further defeat the purpose of the project because no one wants to do a project that does not meet required standard or will fall apart in no time. Thereby, bringing disappointment to the owners of the project. Quality is and should be key when implementing a project.
It is also important to note that cost must be determined to able to have a quality project done effectively.

I will go with the aspect that the quality of a project should be considered from the beginning of the project before the completion that will make the work very well.
