Various definitions of the concept of quality have been put forward.
One generic definition (Pass, 2006b) is as follows:
The overall characteristics of a product or service that fulfill the requirements of customers in terms of quality.
This definition aligns with the viewpoint of Joseph Juran, who, in the 1950s, defined quality as ‘fitness for use’ (as quoted in ASQ, 2019).
This definition is largely consistent with the definition of quality provided by APM (2019, p. 214):
The suitability for the intended purpose and the degree to which the output of a process or the process itself conforms to the requirements.
Now take a moment to consider the following statements about quality. Which ones do you agree with?
- Quality should prioritize the customer’s needs.
- Quality is an internal focus.
- Quality should be considered from the project’s inception.
- The execution phase of a project is crucial for achieving quality goals.
- Quality issues should be openly discussed to identify corrective actions.
- Quality problems should be concealed from customers and possibly managers.
- Individuals are enthusiastic about producing high-quality outcomes.
- Team members do not produce quality outputs without close supervision.
Share your thoughts on these statements in the discussion section below.

I believe quality should be considered from the inception of the project.
I also agree quality should be prioritized over customers needs (to protect your reputation as your work speaks for you)
I believe quality is an internal focus ( your inside would always reflect on the outside or project)
I agree the execution phase is crucial for achieving quality goals
I believe quality issues should be discussed openly to identify corrective actions
I agree with the statement “Team members do not produce quality outputs without close supervision”. When there is no close supervision it is easy for everyone(team members) to handle the project as they want because they know they’re not under watch by their head(project manager). The team members do the little they can instead of giving or putting in their all to make sure that the output/end result of the project is 100% quality.

Quality should be the main focus of a project and should be considered from the inception of the project with great supervision
I agree with the following statements about quality;
1. Quality should be focused on the customer’s needs.
2. Quality should be considered from the beginning of the project.
3. The execution phase of a project is the most critical to achieving quality targets.
4. Quality issues should be discussed openly to find corrective actions.
Quality Problems should also be discussed with stakeholders of all levels to emphasize non compromise of quality of products and/or services.
Quality should be focused on the customers’ needs because quality improvement focused on the customers needs from the company improves its efficiencies and meets the customers growing needs. When this is structurally in place, the clients are happy and satisfied and will be loyal to ones products and services and refer others to you for more business patronage
I agree with the following;
1. Quality should be focused on the customers’ needs.
2. Quality should be considered from the beginning of the project.
3. The execution phase of a project is not the most crucial phase to achieve quality targets but the planning phase.
4. Quality issues should not be hidden from customers and managers but should be brought open and forward for further discussion and possible solutions.
5. People are not naturally keen on producing quality outputs unless they are obligated by a system to do so.
6. Team members do not produce quality outputs without close supervision.
7. Quality is focused internally.
Quality is a major bed rock for any project.
Quality should be discussed from the beginning.
Supervision is very important to ensure quality is not jeopardise during task in the project.
I agree with the following statements about quality;
1. Quality should be considered from the beginning of the project- At least, the good book says when the foundation is faulty…………. Hence, quality being the bedrock of a project should be paramount.
2. The execution phase of a project is the most critical to achieve quality targets.
3. Quality issues should be considered openly to find corrective measures- like an igbo adage says; when people pee together it foams.
4. Team members do not produce quality outputs without close supervision- People wouldn’t always want to give in their best unless they’re being monitored closely to produce excellent result. This is applicable in any type of project.
Quality is the ability to produce goods and/or services in the best obtainable form depending on customer needs and in a bid to protect company or organizations reputation.
I do believe that quality of projects are supposed to be discussed, assessed and emphasized from the Forming to the Adjourning stage not only as guidelines to Project teams but also to ensure Project Sustainability.
Quality Problems should also be discussed with stakeholders of all levels to emphasize non compromise of quality of products and/or services.
A substandard project or products will likely leave a customer dissatisfied and disappointed. Thus, quality should be considered from the beginning of the project. I agree to the following:
Quality should be focused on the customer’s needs.
Quality is focused internally.
Quality should be considered from the beginning of the project.
The execution phase of a project is the most critical to achieve quality targets.
Quality issues should be discussed openly to find corrective actions.
While I disagree with this:
Quality problems should be hidden from customers and possibly also managers. If this is done, it will breed distrust.
Team members do not produce quality outputs without close supervision.
People are keen on producing quality outputs. Most people are not keen on producing quality outputs because they want to cut cost.
