What is quality [PM Course discussion]

Various definitions of the concept of quality have been put forward.

One generic definition (Pass, 2006b) is as follows:

The overall characteristics of a product or service that fulfill the requirements of customers in terms of quality.

This definition aligns with the viewpoint of Joseph Juran, who, in the 1950s, defined quality as ‘fitness for use’ (as quoted in ASQ, 2019).

This definition is largely consistent with the definition of quality provided by APM (2019, p. 214):

The suitability for the intended purpose and the degree to which the output of a process or the process itself conforms to the requirements.

  1. I agree that:
    – Quality should be focused on the customer’s needs.
    – The execution phase of a project is the most critical to achieve quality targets.
    – Quality should be considered from the beginning of the project.
    – Quality issues should be discussed openly to find corrective actions.

  2. Customer demands should come first when determining quality.

The emphasis is on internal quality.
Quality should be taken into account from the beginning of the project.

A project’s execution phase is essential for reaching its quality objectives.

To find solutions, frank discussion of quality issues is necessary.

People are passionate about delivering top-notch results.

Without rigorous supervision, team members cannot generate high-quality results.

  3. All the above statements are correct and none should be left out
But mostly the customer satisfaction/ need is the ultimate, because customers are the reasons for business at first .

  4. I agree that quality should be focused on the customer needs, because they are the end users and it’s mainly because of the customers and what the product will solve is why the product or production Is made,

Quality problems shouldn’t be hidden from the customers , mangers or stakeholders, it should be brought out for discussion and feedback that why feedback is always introduced and first impression matters most don’t let ur customers see the fault in your products

The execution phase is the most critical yes because this where you deliberate and find out if the product should be this way or not and this where u see fault in product, goods and services

Quality should be discussed openly to find corrective actions :I totally agree with this

Test ur product and discuss about it before it’s out

    1. Every enterprise becomes profitable if the producers put the needs of the customers or consumers as priority before profit making.
Following the statements mentioned above about quality, they are absolutely right with regards to the context if quality.
Quality should always be considered first at the beginning of every project and it should be consistent all through.

  5. Quality must be discussed at the exclusion of the project phase. Everyone participating must be ready and all the focus must be on the quality. PM must provide adequate time and required facilities to aid facilitation of quality of the end product.

  6. Quality is one of the most important thing to consider at the beginning of the project. It will be the driving force to ensure the proper execution for the right outcome and quality.

  7. won’t succumb to the ideology that people work qualitatively when been supervised, rather quality is been produced when there are motivations and transparencies in the day today running of a project till completion.

When quality is prioritized before the commencement of the project, almost everyone will be on the same page in regards to producing quality result.

uality problems should be concealed from customers and possibly managers.
Manufacturers call back defective products for the hazard it will pose to the end users. This goes to show the need for mangers and customers to know what they are selling and buying.

  8. Good day all, quality is the totality of the attribute of a good or service which meet the requirements of buyers or customers’ quality.
Therefore quality should be focused on customer’s needs and not internally because you didn’t begin a project to render the service to yourself
Secondly, quality should be considered from the very onset of the project because it helps to know the direction your project will take.
Thirdly, quality issues should be discussed openly to find corrective actions that is why there is a team working with you, project management has never been an individual work.
Lastly, team members do not produce quality output without close supervision. As a Project Manager, a supervision is still needed even if your members are trusted because two heads are better than one.
