~~ Thinking about complexity – Discussion

Hello, this module focuses on how to manage projects in a complicated world. The world is changing rapidly and in unpredictable ways. Just consider the changes caused by new technology, worldwide trade and competition, social and political disturbances, and the environmental emergency.

You might think that project management has little to do with these major global matters. However, all kinds of organizations, whether large or small, are impacted by the world they operate in. How a company understands and responds to this complexity influences the projects it chooses to undertake and how it handles them.

This week, we begin by examining frameworks that help us grasp this intricate world. These frameworks guide our actions, responses, and decision-making in the face of complexity.

Next, we delve deeply into various methods and practices for managing projects when faced with uncertainty, instability, and change. These methods include linear approaches and life cycles, often known as the waterfall method, as well as iterative or agile approaches. You will explore the pros and cons of these methods, as well as the ongoing debates about them.

By the end, you’ll grasp how to use and blend these methods effectively to achieve successful project outcomes.

To start off this week, we’re interested in hearing about your experiences. Considering those major global issues like technology, competition, social and political changes, and environmental problems, think about how they impact your organization and the projects you’re involved in.

Feel free to share your experiences with fellow learners in the discussion.

  1. Global issues, environmental challenges, political and social changes and technology these listed above have negative impact on the organization. All these factors listed majorly can hamper the effectiveness of an organization issues like pandemic affect organizational function in terms of service delivery and also environmental challenges like climate change, global warming are also paramount factors that affect the productive of organization.
Political and social changes this also is a major factor that affects organization because some at times public policies and programs implemented by the government are not in tandem with the organizational goals and objectives.

  2. In an evolving world like ours wherein change is constant, technology innovations have positively impacted my organization through ease of communication with mobile cellphone and text messaging instead of postal services and it’s inconveniences. More so political and social issues are not left out, although there are demerits but they are outweighed by the merits considering how simple and efficient they are yet.

  3. As a Training Technology Administrator working with community drug administrators, health facilities officers, and their supervisors, I’ve had experience with Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) programs. The integration of Information and Communication Technologies for Development (ICT4D) has greatly enhanced the effectiveness of these programs.

SMC involves administering antimalarial medication to children during the peak malaria transmission season. ICT4D solutions, such as mobile health (mHealth) applications, have improved the management and implementation of SMC programs.

    For instance, ICT4D solutions can:

    1. Enhance data collection and reporting: Mobile applications can facilitate real-time data collection, reducing errors and improving the accuracy of reports.

    2. Improve supply chain management: ICT4D solutions can help track medication distribution, reducing stockouts and ensuring that children receive the necessary treatment.

    3. Increase community engagement: Mobile applications can be used to educate communities about SMC programs, promoting awareness and adherence to treatment.

The effective integration of ICT4D solutions has transformed the way we implement SMC programs, ultimately contributing to the reduction of malaria cases and improvement of public health outcomes.

  4. These global issues have a significant impact on my organization and the projects we undertake. Technology drives us to continuously upgrade tools and processes, ensuring efficiency and staying competitive. Competition pushes us to innovate and deliver high-quality results within tight timelines. Social and political changes require us to adapt to evolving regulations and prioritize inclusivity and diversity in our projects. The environmental crisis encourages us to integrate sustainability into our strategies and deliverables. Together, these factors shape how we plan, execute, and deliver impactful projects that align with the organization’s goals and values.

  5. Thinking about those big global issues, such as technology, competition, social and political change, and the environmental crisis, ask yourself how do these affect my organisation and my projects?
Yeah, to answer this question, I will have to say that not all these factors affects my business, just few of them, factors like technology and political change do not affect my business negatively because my business deals with what man’s consume, so it makes it highly demanding in the market, I will rather use technology to grow my business.
But other factors like competition and environmental crisis really affect my business, I as rabbit farmer has experienced great lost rearing my rabbits due to the fact that the environment and the business is not promoting the business, and this has caused a low return of profit to take place.

  6. In complex world change is inevitable. Change can be positive or negative.
New technologies: it has brought positive change and negative change .positive change;it makes work more easier and done easily and even more faster. Negative change; it renders individuals unemployed.
Social and political crisis Environmental crisis affect the production and outcome of projects.
Competition: the complex world makes it easy for healthy competition among companies.

  7. Change has its positive and negative effects on my organization, but change is constant and must happen we can only adjust to its demands, While some change in science and technology like communication, inventions, scientific discoveries, software development have helped to foster, growth and efficiency some like AI development have threatened to reduce manpower, thereby increasing efficiency but reducing manpower.
However on the other side, social and political change are having a major impact on the organization, while the growth is been stalled by the political dynamics of the world ranging from policies to execution of the said policies. While considering growth we would have to put in mind the effect on our environment, so more effort is put into going green using, renewable energy sources that will not be harmful to the environment, the improvement comes at a cost and most times a high one.
Competition on the other hand has caused a lot of change and improvement which are necessary for customers benefits and satisfaction.

  8. The world is constantly evolving, and this has greatly improved different sectors. Technology has made communication and other things easier for organizations, people can now communicate effectively and efficiently even without traveling to each others location. However, technology, political and social issues has also impacted my organization positively and negatively, technology for instance has made more students reluctant in reading since the development of AI which has in turn reduced the quality of graduates in the street.

  9. Change is a constant aspect in our today’s world, technology is one the greatest part of that change.. in today’s world use of technology has made it more easier for companies, organisations and teammember to work effectively or carry a successful project.. technology has made people to come together and carry out works ,meeting without physical contact..with our technological tool we can and attend meetings every part of world ..

    1. Change is the one and only constant thing in this world. Technology had greatly impacted my organization positively, such that tests that manually would take days and alot of energy to carry out, now take just a day and minimal energy.

  10. Technology as greatly improved the productivity of everyone especially when you are in a remote site you can easily seat at home work with your team and at the end come out with something reasonable
