~~ Thinking about complexity – Discussion

Hello, this module focuses on how to manage projects in a complicated world. The world is changing rapidly and in unpredictable ways. Just consider the changes caused by new technology, worldwide trade and competition, social and political disturbances, and the environmental emergency.

You might think that project management has little to do with these major global matters. However, all kinds of organizations, whether large or small, are impacted by the world they operate in. How a company understands and responds to this complexity influences the projects it chooses to undertake and how it handles them.

This week, we begin by examining frameworks that help us grasp this intricate world. These frameworks guide our actions, responses, and decision-making in the face of complexity.

Next, we delve deeply into various methods and practices for managing projects when faced with uncertainty, instability, and change. These methods include linear approaches and life cycles, often known as the waterfall method, as well as iterative or agile approaches. You will explore the pros and cons of these methods, as well as the ongoing debates about them.

By the end, you’ll grasp how to use and blend these methods effectively to achieve successful project outcomes.

To start off this week, we’re interested in hearing about your experiences. Considering those major global issues like technology, competition, social and political changes, and environmental problems, think about how they impact your organization and the projects you’re involved in.

Feel free to share your experiences with fellow learners in the discussion.

  1. Change is inevitable and as such, the business world would always have to devise a means to adapt to changes, bearing in mind that it could have a positive or negative effect. Technological advancement for example as seen project managers work via Teams and google meet and not necessarily face to face as it used to be at a time.
Competition can imply that project managers and organisations have to devise means to improve on quality of service and product delivery to gain an advantage and remain relevant.
Social and political factors can have an influence by determining how projects responds to new trends, regulations and governmental legislations that affect them.

  3. In our world today where there’s rapid changes in technology and other things, as a project manager it can either affect you negatively or positively while trying to achieve a project.

Negatively innovative technologies also affects the project of a project manager as his plan work can be exposed to cyber theft.

I understand that the changes in society and politics can influence consumer preferences and regulations. 9. Change is always a constant thing. With the advent and changes in technological advancement, every organization should be able to align and adapt to the current trends in technology and see how they can harness it positively to get their desired results.

  10. Change is the only constant phenomenon that happens in our today world. With Advent of Media, Ai, Google and the likes making information readily available at the palms of people has mandated the organisation to be up and doing to keep up with ethical standards. A clear example can be seen in the health industries where people are increasingly knowledgeable about their health conditions, sign and symptoms treatment course and others makes it compulsory that the health care provider have to be up to date in ensuring appropriate management course instiuted.

Secondly with knowledge of bills of right and litigation, the client definitely will be more expectant toward his or her services put more on the provider trying to keep a clear course.
However these change isn’t just bad but also have positive sides like in the aspect telemedicine, medical robots, e-records etc it reduces burnouts, high number of clients for the health provider to see daily and reduces the risk of spreading communicable disease like was seen in the COVID 19 periods.
