Hello, this module focuses on how to manage projects in a complicated world. The world is changing rapidly and in unpredictable ways. Just consider the changes caused by new technology, worldwide trade and competition, social and political disturbances, and the environmental emergency.
You might think that project management has little to do with these major global matters. However, all kinds of organizations, whether large or small, are impacted by the world they operate in. How a company understands and responds to this complexity influences the projects it chooses to undertake and how it handles them.
This week, we begin by examining frameworks that help us grasp this intricate world. These frameworks guide our actions, responses, and decision-making in the face of complexity.
Next, we delve deeply into various methods and practices for managing projects when faced with uncertainty, instability, and change. These methods include linear approaches and life cycles, often known as the waterfall method, as well as iterative or agile approaches. You will explore the pros and cons of these methods, as well as the ongoing debates about them.
By the end, you’ll grasp how to use and blend these methods effectively to achieve successful project outcomes.
To start off this week, we’re interested in hearing about your experiences. Considering those major global issues like technology, competition, social and political changes, and environmental problems, think about how they impact your organization and the projects you’re involved in.
Feel free to share your experiences with fellow learners in the discussion.

Technology (Social Media in particular) has exceedingly helped many brands become visible with little effort.
I remember when I started my Wedding and Event Management Company during COVID_19 era. I was at home and did everything and was visible.
This was amazing. Considering the fact before the advent of social media, people had to open physical stores to be visible at the start and very least.
But now, physical stores are things you don’t need to do almost immediately.
With social media, I can make sales and pitch to clients right at the comfort of my home.
Technology has really influenced projects like these.
Starting a project (business) and keeping at it is one really challenging issue in Nigeria at the moment due to the political and economic downtime in the country.
It has affected the agricultural sector where I work in no small way, many farmers especially poultry and livestock farmers couldn’t continue their business again by terminating the business because of the high cost incurred on feed, fuel and other maintenance services on their farms.
I never thought there would a time people will be at home and be prevented from public places
,but covid 19 came and gave us a compulsory stay-at-home.
As a banker,it disrupted our day to day activity but we were able to adapt going completely digital, we made use of e channels to perform all transactions. So we were at home and our business was running.
Completing a project in the agricultural sector really seem impossible in Nigeria due to the activities of Fulani herdsmen. This makes agricultural projects really complex.
As a teacher during the period of Covid 19, physical school activities were affected and school owners who wanted to remain in business had to delve into the world of technology in order to keep interaction with the learners. Even school owners that were reluctant in investing technology before the period had no choice than to be fully committed. We started online classes from as low as the Whatsapp then to the Zoom. It was a big social issue that affected not only individual but organisation.
In my journey as student, I have found that globalization and digitalization mean competitors aren’t just local but also international. To stand out, my institution has needed to innovate constantly, adopt efficient practices, and keep costs manageable.
