Experts have a clear understanding of the potential advantages that diversity brings to teams and organizations.
APM acknowledges that diverse teams generally outperform homogeneous ones. This correlation is increasingly evident in the performance and financial outcomes of organizations.
Does this align with your personal experience?
In a previous section, you explored exceptional and high-performing teams. Based on your own observations, do you see a connection between diversity and performance? Do teams with greater diversity produce superior work? Additionally, what challenges arise when working in highly diverse teams?
We are genuinely interested in hearing about your experiences and thoughts regarding these questions in the discussion section.

In a complex situation, there is always a connection between diversity and performance because skilled individuals are brought together. It is safe to say professionals in different fields are brought together to solve an issue at hand, everybody knows what to do at each given time.
The challenge i feel this could pose is storming, where there conflict of personal interest based on individuals and character, but this can be solved as everyone learn to put aside personal interest to achieve a goal. Understanding the uniqueness of a diverse team and inherent skills/values that such brings on board its vital to a project manager. Diversity its not only about gender, sex, race, culture but also intrinsic values, personality which helps brings diverse unique skills, creativity, improved decision making and ability to solve problems that often needed in handling complex/iterative project when compare to simple/homogenous team.
Furthermore, a diverse team will have the benefits of different perspectives which it’s not hinder having not worked together previously.
However, it’s important to ensure that the project manager effectively utilize communication and collaboration skills to keeps the team cohesive to avoid possible disadvantages that occur from cultural or language barrier.
Diversity and Performance can actually be a thing depending on understanding of the individuals involved with these variables. The ability for you to understand that everyone other than yourself are different in thinking, background, experiences and skills will make you work easily and become a high performer in project teams. It may be in the place of the Project Manager to make their teams understand this, if the team lacks the understanding.
Team with greater diversity may produce superior results due to their level of exposure. They may have worked with several teams involving different people that cuts across culture, language and ethnicity, so team with such level of exposure would approach projects with a view that is exceptional, thereby making collaboration easy and leadership smooth on the part of the Project Manager.
Challenges that arise when working in highly diverse teams like I said in the first paragraph, stems from the lack of the generic understanding of the psychology of human function.
Humans are different, these are the basics. Other challenges that highly diverse teams face emanate from this very factor, Human Discrepancy. Others are secondary, like Language, Culture, Personal values, Faith beliefs, Experiences, Psychological Disorders or Trauma, and many others.
Differences in culture, ethnicity, sex and others can cause some storms but all these can be settled with intervention from a project manager.

A combination of difference perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds fosters more creative problem-solving and adaptive thinking. This is valuable in understanding and addressing the needs of a global customer base.
In my opinion a more diverse team perform better because everyone is knowledgeable about a particular area and has something to bring to the table.
Some challenges of working in a highly diverse team are communication or cultural differences, work ethic differences, etc.
As a student, I have had to work with different people with different backgrounds and experiences.
This has changed my perspective on working with familiar people.
In my opinion, working with people in diversity makes the work better and yields a more tasking and engaging result of any project.
I am a graduate student, and my classmates and I have different academic backgrounds and attended different schools. I have found that the diversity in the academic background has helped a lot when we have had to work on a class project together because a particular course may be related to a course that a classmate had taken in undergrad, and that classmate will, in turn, lead the team and enable us to submit a stellar assignment.
