3 experts have described difficult decisions they had to take in one project.
Now think about what was important for them in taking the decision the took. Would they act differently in a different context? Why?
(If you are part of an ongoing PM bootcamp cohort on DEXA, also copy your comment to your group)

What was important to them was strictly the project goals.
When caught up in other different situations they will act differently. Because as project managers they view things Holistically and not shallowly. So they will ensure to come up with other strategies to bring that project to a point of success
I’m more concerned about the speaker that said the issues he faced was language barrier. As a project manager knowing the fact that you will communicate with different clients, stakeholders and team members not everyone will speak the same language so it is important to have interpreters that can help you translate and communicate better instead of loosing an opportunity because of language barrier.
The Decision to end a project prematuredly, is a tough one the speakers in their various situations, took the Decision to end their projects because of foreseen danger: financial issues, language and trust issues.
They ended the project after trying to mend the differences in most casses, which proved successful for some, before a project is stop for whatsoever reason their should be an effective solution to the matters arising, in most casses where the project managers, in the video had to terminate a project, if the stakeholders had acted differently or issues that arose were dealt with squarely and honestly by parties involved, they would have seen the project to conclusion
Every project is unique i.e each has its own advantages, disadvantages, problems encountered and solutions required to solve each of them.
The first speaker had the decision to either terminate the project prematurely or continue with it till it failed even though lots of efforts were put into it when she realized that the project lacked skills needed, lack of resources and financial input. She had to weigh the options for continuing vs cancelling before cancelling the project.
She carried everyone involved along in making those decisions and also learned from the mistakes.
The second speaker talked about the problem that arose from the project, he had to schedule a meeting with those involved in the project so as to get the relevant parties involved to come up with a solution. A solution saved the project during its difficult moment.
Well, their decisions to call off the projects were influenced by certain decisions, which I think was valid because communication is key in project management and one of the managers said he had language issues meaning he couldn’t communicate effectively, another gave a reason as financial constraints leading to the company’s decision to discontinue the project. All these are valid reasons and I don’t think there will have been a better decision but for the issue of the venue, I think the venue could be changed and the project would have continued.
The decision to call of the projects by the projects managers were generally influenced by this factors ranging from external factors , finance constraints ,feasibility of the projects and other factors.
There communication skill was perfect to driving home there points.
All the three project managers that talked about their difficult decision concerning their projects. They managed to solve their problems and didn’t back down, One of the project managers made mention of a difficult decision she had to take which was ending a project, when there are foreseen risks that cannot be handled by the company or organization the best and most difficult decision to take is to end the project. It is the most difficult decision because every member of the team has put in a lot effort.
There top most concern was not really about the project but the result or the outcome of the results these was matters to them the most.. most time, it’s not always easy to pull out a particular project but the end result are something that always the make a project to look like a project.is necessary to toward focus more on the outcome and the best decision to take..
What was important for them in taking the decision they took is that, they were concerned about the end result, success of the project and maintaining a good relationship with their team and client
I believe they would actually act differently in different context, why because, the issues are different, and different approach must be taken making sure that all project ends up well and successfully.
Each of them were concerned about the end result and success of the project, it could be very painful to terminate a project early just like one of them said but the end product is what that matters. Each of them had their own problem solving skill which worked well for them in making decisions, which makes them very good managers
