Hello, this module focuses on how to manage projects in a complicated world. The world is changing rapidly and in unpredictable ways. Just consider the changes caused by new technology, worldwide trade and competition, social and political disturbances, and the environmental emergency.
You might think that project management has little to do with these major global matters. However, all kinds of organizations, whether large or small, are impacted by the world they operate in. How a company understands and responds to this complexity influences the projects it chooses to undertake and how it handles them.
This week, we begin by examining frameworks that help us grasp this intricate world. These frameworks guide our actions, responses, and decision-making in the face of complexity.
Next, we delve deeply into various methods and practices for managing projects when faced with uncertainty, instability, and change. These methods include linear approaches and life cycles, often known as the waterfall method, as well as iterative or agile approaches. You will explore the pros and cons of these methods, as well as the ongoing debates about them.
By the end, you’ll grasp how to use and blend these methods effectively to achieve successful project outcomes.
To start off this week, we’re interested in hearing about your experiences. Considering those major global issues like technology, competition, social and political changes, and environmental problems, think about how they impact your organization and the projects you’re involved in.
Feel free to share your experiences with fellow learners in the discussion.

We cannot over emphasize the fact that globalization, environmental challenges, technology advancement, AI, and the likes is taking its effect and importance in the economy of today. For this reasons or having this fore-knowledge as a Engineering Consultant in the Civil Engineering world, we need to be on top of our game, learn the skills, software, update yourself on how to stay relevant & not to be obsolete so as to be able to fit in on any project that we come across.
The basics of knowledge cannot be forgotten, but the updating oneself to the latest developmental changes in ones field of endeavor is the way out. Always stay relevant.
As a teacher, I noticed that the massive attention given to technology by both staff and students is alarming I therefore will suggest that technology and cyber security should be studied in school. To build a better nation
As a music director, teamwork is the paramount ability needed in my organization as most times there’s is diversity which some times causes some certain bad circumstances.
With the fact that artificial intelligence is taking over the world, there is little dependence on the Human Resources which makes it difficult and impossible
In my experience as a learner of project management, effective communication is paramount. Clear goals, well-defined roles, and a detailed project plan contribute to successful outcomes. Embracing flexibility and adaptability helps navigate unforeseen challenges. Regular evaluations, feedback loops, and lessons learned sessions foster continuous improvement. Ultimately, a collaborative and organized approach enhances the likelihood of project success.
As an ICT engineer the changes will encounter in the cost of equipment and transportation from one point to another which is caused by the economy and probably the new government policies, it would affect your projects because if you have an ongoing project that has maybe last year for 6 years the current price that you purchase things it’s going to be different from when the project started the project.
One inevitable challenge faced frequently is the incessant changes in our external environment. It affects our service delivery, it affects our supply chains etc. The consistent increase in exchange rate which is a combination of economic factors as well as political factors affects our projects.
Development of new technological trends places us in a situation where we need to upgrade in order to stay alive in the competitive industry
With the rapid change and technological advancement the world is experiencing, there is less and less dependence on human resources. Inotherwords, one must constantly seek knowledge and continuous development in order to stay relevant.
There is relatively stringent competition witht the sudden advent of AI.
Social, political, and environmental issues have necessitated some projects to be put on hold or to experience a drag either due to lack of funds by sponsors or due to the impact of the on-going war between Russia and Ukraine as well as the middle East.

Technology has played significant roles in project execution and implementations. With the help of technology getting job done becomes easy, though technology has its negative side too which is making people dependant on it, whereby if their is fault or network challenge some work cant continue. So technology can be seen as both good and a curse.
Technology has really helped my company. As one of the leading cookware manufacturers in the world, Burn has employed some modern technology and machinery that has helped the business attain such great milestone.
Executing projects in present day has faced a lot of challenges such as technological, political and environmental.
As it concerns technology, it can be said that technology has been both a blessing and curse. A blessing because it has aided in effective communication and making the execution of projects faster. One can now send emails, text messages and even communicate via various social media. There is little or no need of having a physical meeting.
On the other hand, technology has been a curse because it has in some instances slowed down projects due to lack of proper communication between team members especially where internet connection is unavailable.
As it concerns environmental, there are difficult terrains which makes execution of projects almost impossible e.g. in a place where the host community is hostile to project managers.
Lastly, managing projects can be affected politically. Governments come and go, and there is always the issue of new policies coming up everyday which hinder continuity; hence disrupting the execution of projects.
