Hello, this module focuses on how to manage projects in a complicated world. The world is changing rapidly and in unpredictable ways. Just consider the changes caused by new technology, worldwide trade and competition, social and political disturbances, and the environmental emergency.
You might think that project management has little to do with these major global matters. However, all kinds of organizations, whether large or small, are impacted by the world they operate in. How a company understands and responds to this complexity influences the projects it chooses to undertake and how it handles them.
This week, we begin by examining frameworks that help us grasp this intricate world. These frameworks guide our actions, responses, and decision-making in the face of complexity.
Next, we delve deeply into various methods and practices for managing projects when faced with uncertainty, instability, and change. These methods include linear approaches and life cycles, often known as the waterfall method, as well as iterative or agile approaches. You will explore the pros and cons of these methods, as well as the ongoing debates about them.
By the end, you’ll grasp how to use and blend these methods effectively to achieve successful project outcomes.
To start off this week, we’re interested in hearing about your experiences. Considering those major global issues like technology, competition, social and political changes, and environmental problems, think about how they impact your organization and the projects you’re involved in.
Feel free to share your experiences with fellow learners in the discussion.

I work with a financial institution and there are many issues the organization is facing ranging from technology to social and political activities and the rest.
These hurdles can be overcome by making of adequate provision for all these issues.
A lot of investment in upskill and reskill of staffs training.
To me I feel the rapid global changes currently experienced is interesting. For one it has opened the eyes of everybody and you cannot afford to continue to use and stick to our primitive methods and yet expect a different result.
It has also given way to a healthy competition in the global world of business. Foreign projects are now emerging and accessible, execution can even been done without necessarily leaving the country where you reside. For my organization, our clients has also increased both locally and internationally.
On the other hand, social and political crisis in our country has resulted into emergence of ill conceived government policies . this coupled with harsh environmental changes in the country have both combined to affect many organizations including ours. many potential foreign partnering organizations have relocated although situation has favored others who were well positioned for this development.
Technology on its own has been an eye opener to all across the globe. It has challenged all and bring so many opportunities for innovations and better organizational efficiency.. Also, it has made the entire global business world quite competitive whereby organizations have to enhance project quality and respond swiftly to to changing market demands.
As an organization, technology may cause downsizing of staff, it will also increase workload and cross functional roles within the organization.
For project, technology especially for team members who possesses set skill on project management and it softwares will enhance high productivity and efficiency.
As a good Project Manager, one should be able to consider the major global issues like technology, legal and regulations, political and social changes, environmental and competition in order to determine the success of the project. Take for example, the present change of political leadership in Nigeria affected the commencement of the fourth Mainland which the Lagos State wanted to do the Public Private Participation.
Globally, people are beginning to have the same ideas, which means more competition. For project managers, this means more of their jobs involve identifying competitors. Some of the challenges faced by project managers are cultural differences, legal restrictions, work environments, political situations, and even work approaches. All this needs to be considered for the project to succeed.
When considering big global issues such as technology, competition, social and political change and environmental crisis,I think it’s important to assess how they may impact my organization and projects.
Technology: Rapid advancement in technology can both create opportunities and pose challenges for your organization it may require one to adapt and integrate new technologies into your projects.
Competition:It is crucial to monitor your competitors and understand their strategies ,as well as identify unique value propositions that differentiate your organization and project from others.
Social and political change: social and political change such as shifting demographics, cultural shifts and policy reform can influence consumer behaviour and market dynamics .Organization should stay aware of these changes.
Environmental crisis:this includes climate change and resource depletion, has led to increased awareness and demand for sustainable practices . incorporating environmental consideration into your projects can enhance your organization reputation.
To assess the impact of these global issues on your organization and projects conducting a thorough analysis of your industry , market trends and stakeholders expectations.
